So much so he played Lyon, Murphy and Kurnhemann in the same side less than 12 months ago.

In Asia and let’s be real here Lyon and Kuhermann were the dangerous ones. One is injured and one is just back from injury

Your memory might be better than mine, but i don't remember us ever playing three specialist spinners – in Asia or wherever. So to say Smith doesn't rate our spinners is infactual. That's if he even gets a say in final team selection as stand in skipper

Smith definitely has players he doesn't rate.

You could tell last summer he had no time for Webster.

Then last test Richardson didn't get a go until the test was done really.

All captains do really. We haven’t had a captain that uses spinners well since Clarke really

We might have done it once or twice, it’s not a play that’s been really successful. Nowadays we have ahead there he’s as good as a “third” spinner. We haven’t had a captain since Clarke that could use spinners it’s always been about bowl quicks and oh if that doesn’t work better trundle a spinner a few overs. Smith is near the worst of the lot at using a spinner, Cummins only half fractionally better just saved by the fact Lyon is very very good regardless. Going to be ultra interesting after Lyon retires

Seriously so sick of losing cricket days to Rain in Sydney how many more before they change the damn schedule.

Brisbane Gabba 1st Test
Sydney SCG 2nd Test
Adelaide AO 3rd test
Melbourne MCG 4th test
Perth 5th test OS (teams half way home already)

What is their obsession with having the 5th / new year's test.

Most Rained out days at a group in the history of test cricket is the SCG so maybe change the time they have it.
Corporate stakeholders and CA head office staff get to go to Sydney for the NYE fireworks and then it's a nice re-entry to the workplace (by spending your first day "at work" by getting pissed on the company credit card).

It works with the holidays here, on what planet is it working in December in Sydney? Unless you are open to it being a permanent D/N and that’s going to be a hard sell for members, I’d be okay with it not sure others would.
Adelaide SACA members managed pretty well with a test starting on a Wednesday in the middle of December.

Brisbane consistently sell the Gabba out late November early December.

Are people in NSW too afraid to take a few days off work to catch the cricket earlier in December? Do people in NSW want to see a test that isn't rain affected that is a live game in the series or do they want to keep missing days with rain and host dead rubbers because it fits nicely for some corporate toffs annual holidays?

It's a moot point anyway. It's sold out for the first 4 days.

That's what matters to the bean-counters, they don't care what day it starts if it's fully sold.

I looked 4 weeks ago for tickets for this game. Nada. At ANY price.

I pull this stat out every year but Nathan Lyon's record at the SCG is really poor so I'm not surprised they have no confidence in Murphy to do any good there.
No spinner's record is any good at the SCG for at least the last decade, possibly more.

It genuinely hasn't turned for years. It's been slow spin, not the spiteful turn it once had 20+ years ago.

Herath was the last one I can recall doing well, and he was helped by bowling against us. And he was one helluva bowler.

Adelaide was D/N before this year it works. Look if you want to make Sydney a D/N I’d be all ears but not a day match in December it’s a nightmare let alone the ridiculous track works etc that are always in December it just won’t work. Adelaide was very close to XMas people (most) are on holidays. You are asking Sydney to be earlier than that, it’s logically ridiculous. Much rather keep it Jan for a number of reasons.

Call me crazy but wouldn’t the SCG pink test be the perfect place for the pink ball D/N test?
Given how volatile the D/N tests are already, I'd much rather keep it rotating between regular grounds so the groundskeepers can always have 1-2 Shield games as prep.

Until D/N becomes a mainstay (probably another 10-15 years and will require a good D/N Dukes ball) let's not make it too volatile. It's already been bad enough with Starc ripping through teams in the D/N stuff.

We did in India last time we were there. Lyon, Kuhnemann and Murphy

Also in Bangladesh a few years ago: Lyon, Agar, O'Keefe

Not sure if we've ever done it in Australia?

Don't think we have a pitch that damages the ball from over 1. Its not like Galle or Nagpur. Maybe Darwin, but the last time we had a test there was against Bangladesh IIRC and that was 20 years ago.

Herath's main weapon involved changing his pace and length, anyway.

Sri Lanka.

Still one of the worst pitches I've seen at Test level (the ball climbing rapidly off a length, ample movement, an ATG Australian side crawling to 200 in both innings).
