It's an interesting topic. Does it help the Poms more? Or does it just give fringe local players more of an opportunity?

Does playing in a diluted comp against lesser opposition help THEIR Test players?

It's a kneejerk for mine, you want the best you can get in your premier comp.

There were heaps of Poms, Indians and Pakistanis playing in First Grade in my era in Perth but very few in the Shield. I'm sure it was, and is, the same in other states.

Australia has always been fairly "reluctant" to have overseas players in the Shield, and it's even less likely now given the schedules. You can pretty much write off the Southern hemisphere players from it. I can't remember the last one to be honest. Wessels played for QLD before SAF's readmission, likewise Barry Richards for SA. Sobers? Tony Lock played for WA after he'd retired from England.
i remember andy flower playing for SA. mason crane randomly got a game didn't he?

I like Webster but it does feel a strange choice.
Jhye didn't blow anyone away last test, and Slug provides an extra bat in what is a mostly out of form lineup. His Shield form hasn't been great but he still deserved a chance.

Don’t think Smith rates Murphy much and is Webster that much worse as a spinner/quick on form?

More the choice of not going with a spinner. Would have been fine with Webster over Green.

Weather looks ok at the moment.

Big day of cricket for me today. Taking my 8 year old to the MCG for the first time tonight to see the BBL.
According to the weather apps, expect some rain from 2-4pm.

Webster's on a hiding to nothing. Dragged around the squad, played one BBL game in what is it five weeks? Worse than no match time. Hardly conducive to a decent performance when finally called on, especially with the bat. A lot like Khawaja had to endure 8-9 years ago.

Yep good get with Flower. I had to look up Mason Crane and yes he did.

Looking up Mason Crane got me Imran Khan for NSW in 1984. I was the NT then, it was an utter information dead zone.

No spinner at the SCG is stupid.
Webster, Head, Labs and Smudge can bowl spin, but I see what you mean. Plus the SCG hasn't been the raging turner as it once was.
Also its not warm enough to bake it.

We were never dropping him last test. Whatever happens it’s a great learning experience
36 tests, but this one test will be a learning experience?

Tassie had Holding, Stephenson and Patterson during the 80s as well.
