Origin = beginning
Beginning = birth
State of Origin = State of Birth
Simple really, surely not even the AFL can fcuk that up.

I liked the old system they used. Where you spent the most amount of time before your 17th birthday.

Or even between your 12th birthday and your 17th birthday, that determines your state of origin and if the player doesn’t agree, they don’t play.

So now the Northern clubs have the Avenue of hiring a coach or assistant long term that are former AFL players who have FS eligible sons for a different club and draft them through their academy.

The fact [PLAYERCARD]Jason McCartney[/PLAYERCARD] has long been involved with GWS but his son is in the Sydney Swans academy and even though is a FS prospect for North he can choose to play for Sydney over North. The AFL need a rule that FS trumps academy.

Same thing with Luke Hodge's son in Brisbane academy. These players have AFL playing fathers they don't need to be in an academy there's never been a risk of losing these players to rugby in Northern states.

I just hope we have as few players as possible play in this ridiculous meaningless cash grab.

Origin is dead. Let's leave it in the past where it belongs. At best play it at the end of the year comprised of players not in the finals.

There is no positive to come of our players playing this game - only the risk of injury one month before the season.

What I think killed Origin the first time was clubs got scared in the 'new' professional era as they sought every minor advantage they could find. As it was relatively new many clubs and players sought every advantage they could think of. Convincing star players to avoid Origin began to become easy especially since no one wanted to play for the Allies. Crowds also dropped off.

I think the only way for it to be successful is for a carnival. Every state plays two games. As its at a carnival level they could all go to one state and be like a gather round.

But yeah, I suspect the AFL is trying to shut the media and fans who want Origin back by having a one off meaningless pre season game that smacks of tokenism. If minimal fans turn up, poor TV ratings the AFL can say 'see, no one travelled, no one watched, its not worth having.'

I just dont think the AFL want it.

Rankine’s suspension rule him out?

They should do an FA Cup style knockout comp with all the clubs in the land, AFL clubs join later in the comp and then you can have a fairytale cup run from a minnow side like Gaza knocking off Carlton in the 4th round or something
Salisbury West running rampant and head-hunting an AFL side

Gaza has a higher salary cap.

Let's be real. State of Origin only mattered when it was SA vs Vic and it was pre 2000. For what purpose do people want a state of origin to come back? It's a national competition now. We have 23 non-sa players on the Crows list.

These novelty games are just a waste of time, money and resources.

It’s like an old girlfriend the memories and the thought is nice.
But in reality don’t go back there.

the vfl have a history of rigging the rules in their favour, even when it comes to the token games every couple of years.

kills the interest for me, like watching the football equivalent of WWE without the intensity.

This is nothing new.

Look at Carey playing for SA, then not.
Dunstall for Victoria

Waste of energy wanting the afl to be consistent.

It could get even more absurd. Imagine if it was based on what you identify as, rather than what you actually are.

It should be the state you were drafted from.*

*I haven’t thought this through entirely, there’s probably some issues with it, somebody else can solve those.

No issue with that, just stick to it and don’t change it to suit certain individual. Just stay consistent

You'll like this one. Country of origin.

Based on ancestry. Whatever the majority that your blood says you are going back 10 generations.

Australia vs England, Ireland, Germany etc.
