Test will be a draw pending us not shitting the bed with the bat.

Dunno.

England don't play too many draws these days (neither do Australia really).

Also, the couple of Shield games this season has seen huge first innings scores by the team batting first (i.e. 400+) and then all 3 subsequent innings in both matches have been at 171 or less as the pitch has cracked and started playing tricks.

May not happen again but I still think a draw is the least likely of the outcomes.

It was a dumb shot... Particularly after losing a wicket.

As I've said earlier... If he had a history of doing it, I'd give him the same amount of grief.

The player you’re sticking it to gets most of his criticism for having a history, apparently, of giving his wicket away with outrageous shots and big swipes etc.

Today he gets a ball that realistically he probably could have smacked but you’re saying he doesn’t care because he tried to bump it away to third man.

Maybe he just got out hey.

Steve Smith has stopped caring based on his ungainly hack down the ground in Melbourne. That’s what I’m getting from all of this

Cameron Green must be relieved that he now doesn't have the dumbest dismissal of the series
There is a bit of competition for that award to be fair.

I really wish at least one Australian batter had the hunger for runs just because it’s the old enemy like Root has.

From the top down, the cue is in the rack for these last two tests.

I’ll happily eat these words when Australia get to bat and someone fills their boots.

Depends if there’s any deterioration and you are a brave bloke to think this deck is breaking up. Probably a handful at most balls have done anything. If they get 400 ish no reason we can’t. I haven’t bothered going today close enough to the ground if we are batting after tea to head down anyway

I don't moderate this subforum, friend, and I don't think it's a particlarly clever idea to bring it up as though it makes a difference to how someone might participate in the forum elsewhere.

And I seem to have hit a sore spot for you. Perhaps you could try some betadine and a bandaid instead of drooling on your keyboard.
Never said you did moderate this subforum, and what on earth makes you think you’ve hit a sore spot? I’m literally laughing at you living in an alternate reality to the rest of us. Do keep doubling down though despite clearly being proven wrong.

Anyway, it’s lunch. You really should go make that appointment.

Smith might on a road. He won’t get a better shot ball ain’t moving like Melb

Webster is there for his batting because they have no confidence in the batting line-up. They rate Green's bowling more (correct call)

Basically a selection to not lose and we’ll Smith doesn’t rate whatever Murphy can dish up probably rightly so in Australia

Looking forward, do you guys think that to be a mainstay in the squad as a spinner, you will have to be an all rounder? With WTC we are much less likely to experiment, and we obviously aren't confident in our current batch of spinners (noone would have dropped Lyon for this test if he was available).

I don't mean bowling shit like Marnus or Head, I mean a genuine spinner that is serviceable with the bat. Obviously we're not about to find a Jadeja, but if you're a prospective spinner in the system right now, you'd have to be looking at building your batting skills as pure spin is not gonna hack it anymore except for the subcontinent tours.

this might be the most boring test in a few years

Very boring day 1 and most of today other than the laugh of Marnus bowling

However it’s better than a 2 day test in Melbourne

Somewhere in between is better

Non weather impacted draws are extremely rare these days

I'd love to go (not in NSW). We do have a deep, albeit pretty brittle, batting line up so absolutely possible. Didn't watch enough of the Shield but scores like 7-470 dec still got a result, suggesting the batting was easy for at least 2 days before it got trickier. Smit did also mention the cracks coming into play. It doesn't seem to take a lot of deterioration for either side to look much more vulnerable.

Even if the pitch remains good to bat on, my other point was that neither side tend to play for draws and may opt for more aggressive declarations or simply more aggressive batting to try and get a result. Both teams will risk it and back themselves to win rather than play for time until any hope of a win has gone.

Assuming we get somewhere close to the allotment of overs, I'd still bet on a result, even if we bat well and take a 1st innings lead.

Much, much worse.

Green was at least trying something and got predictable to a bowler who is a bowler. Smith's was a baseball shot over cover to a deep fielder when his opponent was clearly out of ideas being bowled by not the best bowler in the world but the most enthusiastic.
There was still a chance of the fielder dropping that dolly, there was no chance of Green not getting bowled given how far he moved.
