The non-striker can be given out obstructing the field however, it would be difficult to prove. Depends on how good an actor they are. But I thought the same thing. He could have easily got in between the bowler and the ball.While that ball was in the air, Potts could have ran through and obstructed Neser. He could have done it completely deliberately, he'd be given out, but he would save Root, the in form batsman.
Question I have: is there any scope in the rules to punish this behaviour (like a Tech foul in basketball I suppose)? Or would it simply come down to you being called a campaigner and stoking up the tired "spirit of cricket" debate.
In the right circumstances, in a big, tight game: it could happen.
