Marnus is far too easy for the other teams to psych out.

Smith is such a weak captain.

Putting out a night watchy to protect himself
If we're criticising Marnus for playing a shot with less than 20 mins to go, it is by that same logic that a night watch makes sense, Neser is ironically not that much more likely than Smith to be dismissed if we're in a scenario where both of them are not playing shots (obviously Smith far more likely to score more before dismissal playing shots).

Boland snubbed

Where is our nightwatchman in Scott Boland!
Too much time left for Boland as nightwatchman. He was a good option at Melbourne because him getting out meant that the day would finish. So he didn't actually have to do more than face the single delivery.

With the amount of time left, the night watchman getting out on their first delivery would've meant the next guy has to come in and bat tonight. So better to chose a someone who has a better defensive technique.

And only then when beating up defending homosexuals.

Edit: before my post gets deleted, Mods, this is entirely factural and formed part of his defence.
It actually didn't though. It formed part of his defence in the media but not actually within the courtrooms.

TBH if we wanted a night watchman, surely Green would have been a better option

Not sure about that, I would have more faith in Neser lasting until stumps and Green is a nervous starter at the best of times.

The Stokes performative arts academy is out again, gotta SLAM your hand down when picking up your hat from the umpire, otherwise how would the English media know what to report on?

I think people understand it, they're just having a bit of fun

Nah.

Marnus has spent the last few years getting ahead of himself, believing the hype. He believed he really was good enough to average over 50, and it meant that all he had to do was work on a shot and he'd be able to do it. Cover driving; sure, that was in his wheelhouse, but square drives? Cover drives on the up or at wide balls? Cut shots, at all?

I don't buy for a minute he 'got distracted'. He'd been pushing at balls well wide of safe cover driving range for more than a few overs, and it cost him.
He’s barely averaged 30 for his last 30 tests.

Is there a documented case of the first use of the nightwatchman? A cursory flick through the front page of google has not wielded much.
