Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

"I went ahead and tested how easy it'd be for someone that really is a stalker to find out where he lives and it's really easy, lucky I'm not of questionable character despite doing this myself." :$
Testing? Mate I could find the girl I met and talked to for 30 seconds at a party on MySpace within minutes of searching.

Having said that anyone with an IQ above 50 could do it… which is pretty dangerous.

Here's hoping he has a great pre-season, stays fit throughout 2026 (and beyond) and plays a major role in us wining five games and not finishing last next year.

When I first met my wife I added everyone else at the party so it didn't look too obvious 👀

I remember the good old days of making out with a random at Amps and then flicking them the ol Messenger chat at 3am
The glory days.

Kids will never know the joy of seeing and hearing ‘that girl’ sign in on MSN

Yes, importantly stays fit (along with Yeo?) for the season. Imagine him playing as well as his 1st season, but now fitter and stronger with new talent around him.
Hope he can still launch at pack marks, an extra weapon or bonus. Can't recall if Cuzz+Judd, or Shuey were aerialists?

No none of those were aerialists . They were distributors at the contest but when Judd the tallest of those 3 at 189cm would contest for marking he wasnt that great . Definitely not sticky fingered one grab . Embley 190cm similar height was far more proficient for example.

Just shows how generational HR9 is, got it all!
Cuzz was superbly fit endurance-wise, set the standard back then. Embley had the complete all-round winger skills.

Hunter 190cm was the best of that generation.
I was randomly thinking about Hunter the other day.
Age wise, we were a couple of years apart from each other and I used to have a solid dislike for him as he used to walk around Bunbury like he owned the place. Would see him in the Reef and Odessy all the time during off season. One night he was all over a girl I had been seeing for a couple of months and ended up taking her home.
Post footy it was like he turned into a totally different person, become a genuinely nice bloke and was always happy to chat if you run into him.
Was devastated when the news come through that he had passed and still hits pretty hard now. Rip Adam.

But you're right, the guy was an absolute freak talent wise, and he would have even succeeded as a midfielder for us if we played him there. Played midfield for South Bunbury before being drafted and would often kick bags of goals from that position.

Back on thread topic, I have been super impressed with Harley this off-season, from the way he looks to be blending in with the other young guys and even the way he talks now. It's much less about him and more about the team and what he can bring to the team.
I think Mini has managed Harley perfectly, and although some sections of the supporter base where critical of the additions of Graham and Baker (more so the way we got Baker than Baker himself), both of these guys influence has been huge for Harley. He seems so much more disciplined and grounded within the team. When Harley started playing some of his best football in the later part of the year, and it was through playing a lot more team orientated football.

This Off-season has been a good one for us and I am looking forward to watching this young core group of tight nit players grow together. The foundations are really looking to be coming together nicely.

Article in today's Australian that discusses Yeo and HR relationship.

Teaser states, "[PLAYERCARD]Elliot Yeo[/PLAYERCARD] has taken Harley Reid under his wing since he joined the Eagles – but said he got “heated” on the sidelines watching the No. 1 pick cop it from all angles. Plus, the latest on his injury woes."
  • Yeo's days as full time mid finished (his thoughts).
  • Yeo in full training this summer. Some boxes still to be ticked off.
  • Yeo felt helpless/heated watching HR copping it on field and, as a result, HR game stagnated late year.

I wouldn’t say his game stagnated late last year, quite the opposite.

I though before his injury he was really starting to work in to some consistent form. His backend was miles better than his start of season form

I agree, his game didn't stagnate but evolved.

How many young players have ever had to play full time midfield at 19, let along carry it and have to fight through a tag weekly whilst enduring the ongoing harassment from the opposition and abuse from the crowds?

Harleys stats might look similar to the year before but 2025 was all about learning and to say he was thrown into the deep end and expected to swim is an understatement.

I appreciate he did himself no favours turning up underdone in the pre season and early in the year we tried to protect him a little by playing him in the back line but by the end of the year Harley had fought his way though it all and was leading our team week in, week out.

He sacrificed his natural game and flair at times, especially in the middle and instead of trying to fend off every player, he drew them to him and gave the handball off to a team mate, freeing them up and getting us going. To see a young kid with the world on his shoulders evolve the way he did and "get it" thrilled me to bits.

Seeing how he is applying himself this pre season and knowing that more help in the middle has arrived (Yeo, Robertson, MaCrae, Schoenberg, Duursma, McCarthy) i am expecting big things for Harley in 2026.

He's going to shut up alot of opposition nuffies who have no idea the journey he has travelled so far.

Cannot wait.

Poor HR cops some serious flak from opposition supporters.Yes he goes hard and doesn’t back down but the sheer fact is; he’s just a jet .The load will be spread this year. Dursma will draw a lot of attention .
Just having Yoey,Waterman and Starcevich fit will ease the pressure on any one player.
Bigger bodies and more of them.HR is going to have a BIG year! Step aside!

Yeo could perform the Dangerfield Full Forward role with the odd CBA when the heat is on.

Just having Yeo on field for much of the season will make a difference, with his experience and leadership. But a forward/mid role would certainly suit his waning endurance and injury prone body, like Dusty or Danger he could be a weapon there.

Agree with this sentiment - sure, he started behind the eight ball at season start due to injury and sub-standard conditioning at the pre-season kick off.

Worked his way into the season but was a lone soldier for most of the year. Got little or no on-field support from his teammates and was 'harassed and hassled and man-handled' at every opportunity by opponents. Few teammates stood up for him when it counted.

I'd like to think more minutes from Yeo and the likes of Schoenberg, Robertson, McRae, Graham plus another year in the gym from everyone else means we'll see teammates stepping up to the plate in support of HR more often.

Judd had shoulder issues pre draft.

Over head marking was one of the few areas of his game that wasn't elite.
