Agree, I also cringed at Mitch Lewis saying it's his first full preseason in years. Mate, you've had 4 weeks pre-christmas training you aren't even half way through yet.

You haven't had a full preseason and fit and ready to go until you've ran out in the first game.

Xavier Ellis had many of those stories too.
The Hawks believe the midfielder has dislocated his shoulder.

Loved seeing the Butler and Nash push and shove!

I really think Butsy is going to have a big impact this year. Our Tom Atkins.

Going to need him to step up even more now.
Mitch was on the boundary line talking to Rats and said while smiling ……. “they just can’t help themselves” 😂

Yeah they're setting him up to fail.

interested on what you base your "suspicion" on. Looks like a dislocation to me.

PS, the Rockwood classification you posted above is a pretty simplistic explanation, but it is near enough, I guess.
Agree, looks like an anterior dislocation of the GH joint, not the ACJ unfortunately. Would be surprised if he avoids surgery but either way hope he makes a full recovery. Glass half full approach is that he’ll have more time to rest his navicular but awful for him, fantastic player.

The Will Day injury hurts, but AFL is one sport that you simply can't rely on one player in order to be a Premiership contender. You build a deep list of competitors, with a thorough understanding of the game plan, all ready to step up when the opportunity arises.

In saying that, very few players would be more deserving of a premiership medallion than Daysy, especially after everything he's had to endure.

We shouldn't be relying on players like will day and Mitch Lewis to play full seasons to be competitive given their history.

To be competitive? We're not. We have proven that we can make a prelim without this.

The issue is with our current midfield, we absolutely need Day if we want to go further and potentially lift the cup this year.

We have the best backline in the competition and a dynamic mix up forward that's in the top handful. Both are premiership ready lines.

No matter how optimistic I can be with Ward, CMAC, Mackenzie, Weddle and Butler taking big jumps to help Newcombe, that's just a midfield mix 2 years off being bonafide premiership ready imo...

Hopefully the news isn't all that bad with Will. Given the evenness of the top 9 last year, I think we will need him for a good chunk of the season to grab a top 4 spot and go further this year.

Really unfortunate for Will, hoping it's not worst case scenario and has a speedy recovery.

Do the Hawks need to look at midfielders that were delisted and not picked up? Not sure if there are any ready made mids that can help fill the void available.
Ward definitely stepped up last year and l can see him going to another level again this year and
its a big chance for McKenzie to cement his spot in the team.
I wonder now if they will transition Weddle into the midfield sooner than they thought.

WNAAT

We need an acronym thread
Most of these are initialisms. For it to be an acronym you have to be able to pronounce it as a word. NASA is an acronym. IDK isn't.

We want our players to be the best they can be, then when show a glimpse of the mindset required to be elite sportsmen, talking positively, believing in themselves and stating their strength of mind we pot them for it.

Same thing happened when Dylan Moore told media that we aimed to make finals in 2024, some posters here couldn’t handle it. Said he should have kept it to himself.

Same thing again when Mass declared he had been given a vision from Sam of being a top level wingman when he crossed to us, among the likes of Daicos and Gulden.
Posters turned up their noses.

We’ve got people in here raising the white flag saying that Will Day will never be fit, that we should just forget about him, or that he’s just not made for AFL football… can only imagine the absolute state of our football club if our players were as mentally weak.

We sound very spoilt.

I just wanna watch this bloke play footy

I'd like to see us trial him as a high half forward.
He could do plenty of running up and down the ground, being an outlet, using his speed and tank, and hurting the opposition with his marking, intelligence, love for a goal.

For me, we need to de-escalate his presence in high intensity body-smashing desperation-tackling congested play.
And no, it's not because this injury happened in that manner, but because I want to see the kid have a better chance to fulfill his talent and appetite for a wonderful career.

Gutted for him, gutted for us.

If they go the surgery route, that would be atleast 6 months out. Honestly makes me feel sick.

We'd be looking at round 20 return date.

Now im thinking contract wise, what do we do for will. We all love him, but his body is currently not working in his favour.

I know this may sound crazy, shut him down til 2027. Get good physical conditioning in him.
