And we can call timeouts to switch between attacking and defending teams!
And put a massive glass wall around the edge of the field so there is no out of bounds.

AFL having nothing better to do than make new rules or interpretations for the sake of it . The extra player is good though and about the only good one since they started stuffing around with the game unceremoniously. The standing rule is the worst rule in the history of the game. It’s unnecessary and confusing and doesn’t get applied when certain teams break it , see Bailey Scott the most obvious free kick ever lol

Reducing interchanges has never achieved anything positive, despite what AFL house will try and tell you

Really enjoyed that. Kudos to the media team.

Happy to forgo the few formulaic training vids before Xmas that many on here complain about missing if we get these instead.

A lot more depth and really gets the players feeling open and comfortable. Great insight.

But yes - it gets my hopes up. Im not ready to be broken again

Kingy goes whack!

David King slams wildcard weekend as an ‘unapologetic cash grab’ by the AFL

David King has slammed the AFL’s wildcard weekend, saying it’s been introduced for no reason other than to line the pockets of league executives — and could well kill the golden goose.

AFL's wildcard round introduction torn to shreds
The footy world has had its say...

The Wildcard finals weekend is an unapologetic AFL cash grab.
I’m yet to find anyone in football who wanted Wildcard Weekend with the exception of those with their snouts in the trough.

An extra two finals will certainly prove a cash boon, especially for AFL executives who have their salaries incentivised by game revenue. We all understand it and would do the same thing in those roles.

The question is whether it’s good for the game, or threatens to kill the Golden Goose as we enter the meaningful period of September.

It’s nonsense to think the 9th or 10th placed teams would suddenly become contenders. Teams with a win-loss record of barely 50:50 would need to catch fire and not only win five games in succession, but against top contenders. It’s implausible and simply not happening.

If a team that finishes 9th or 10th goes on to win the premiership, I will immediately resign and walk from all media commitments.

Of the 20 teams to finish 7th to 10th on the ladder in the past five home and away seasons, not one has beaten top eight teams five times in succession.

Collingwood got close with four in a row against top eight teams in 2024, but the 19 others could do no more than string together two.

The Wildcard Weekend is just for a participation ribbon. Last season the top 10 positions were locked away with two full rounds to be played.

Tenth placed Sydney was three wins and significant percentage clear of Port Adelaide, yet two wins and significant percentage below the ninth placed Western Bulldogs.

Would the Swans have rested any players over the last 1-2 weeks of the season if they were chasing a Wildcard? Ultimately it means is that 7th & 8th now must play an extra final in September, one more than the top six teams, rendering their premiership aspirations useless. Of course, we’ll all watch and attend as we simply love footy, but we aren’t fools.

Just call it what it is: Wild-cash Round.

Although having more than half the teams in the comp make finals is completely moronic, it is perfectly set up for a decent team to have a horrible run of injuries early in the year that stuffs their record. Then they hit form late, get all their players back, finish 10th. Go on a run through the finals and win it all.

Police have attended the home of Melbourne footballer Steven May following reports of threatening behaviour.
It is understood somebody close to the troubled defender made the call to police.

The Demons defender, who was put on the trade table at the end of last season, was spoken to by officers on Thursday.

There is no suggestion that May was arrested this week.

The two-time All Australian player has been battling with form but still has one year to go on his contract.

There was speculation that he could fill a hole for the Western Bulldogs or Collingwood during the trade period last year.

However, he was overlooked and has remained with the Demons.

This week’s contact with police comes as May has vowed to fight charges against him in relation to a fight at Sorrento in December 2024.

May and Richmond footballer Dion Prestia were charged over the brawl, which resulted in one man being taken to hospital for treatment for injuries.

May and Prestia asked for the charges dropped to be withdrawn at a hearing in January.

The case was adjourned for a contest mention hearing at Frankston Magistrates Court on February 20.

The pair have claimed there were not present during the fight near the Sorrento Hotel.

May has had a difficult time at Melbourne after moving from the Gold Coast Suns.

He was a key player in Melbourne’s 2021 flag, but had an alcohol-fuelled fight with teammate Jake Melksham at swanky Prahran restaurant Entrecôte in 2022.

Melksham required surgery on an infected hand injured in the fight.

May also sparked controversy when he criticised Collingwood after the Demons finals loss in 2024.

Melbourne captain Max Gawn had an on field dispute with May in June last year.

Gawn said his reaction during the incident was “really poor”.

In 2013, May was involved in a fight with his then Gold Coast suns Campbell Brown. The incident - which happened outside a Los Angeles nightclub, following Gold Coast’s pre-season camp in Arizona - left May with a broken jaw.

May left the Suns at the end of 2018 season and moved to the Demons.

He played his junior footy in the Northern Territory.
