He had reasonable protection on the 3 and short but rushed to escape too soon out the front, he needed to hang and wait to see what opened up.

It might not matter if Maye and the offense can’t get their shit together. But that was a terrible decision by Payton not to take the points.

Blindly going for it on fourth and short is an epidemic in the league. Coaches need some better situational awareness.
