Danger has the pace to get separation from defenders, not sure Cripps does.
The only way Cripps forward works is if he is dominant in the air and we’re resting one of McKay/Kemp. Otherwise there’s huge potential for attacking half-backs to expose Cripps for pace.

I don’t thinks it’s an issue. Team defence is key. Byrne Evans Ainsworth O’Keefe McKay Hayward are nimble and can tackle and keep pressure

Cripps will worry defences, take pressure off others and kick/create goals. I also reckon he will be more effective in middle playing less minutes

Many more positives than negatives IMO

Agree. The concern that attacking half backs will run off Cripps does not take into account the abilities and attributes of the other 5 or 6 forwards in our forward line.

Also, when the ball is in contested/congested play on our forward line Cripps would dominate and expose defenders in those situations.

As you say Soap it’s about the balance of our new forward line working as a group and not individuals.

Mids who have successfully transitioned to majority forwards and seen success have explosive power and athleticism, think Ablett Snr, Dusty, Danger.

Whilst Cripps is powerful he is in no way explosive. Going forward in more of a set role he will not have the benefit of these uneven matchups nor an opponent without defensive know how. He will also not be as strong a marking option as like any tall forward his run will be disrupted or taken by his opponent.

The closest to the Cripps archetype I can think of who attempted this transition is Fyfe (and honestly his attributes were probable better than Crippas forward), who was not terribly successful in the role.

I am afraid that when the day comes that Crippa is no longer a majority mid, despite his being a great of the club should be the day he hangs them up.

Playing forward might freshen Cripps up, but I just can't see him as an effective forward. Doesn't really have any forward craft, hasn't got a leap, and is an average kick. Love the bloke, but not seeing it..
But we need to speed up the midfield, necessary evil. Also, Cripps will draw attention, creating space elsewhere and he can bring the ball to the ground. I like it.

The game has never seen a player like Cripps before. An absolute dominate inside mid at 194cm.

you can’t find another comparison like him to gauge trajectory.

His forward craft leaves a lot to be desired, but like another poster mentioned, champions find a way

Cripps would get a lot more momentum from a push-off than Danger, and his first few steps are extremely quick, Danger just sustains it longer off his own steam.

Kouta
Pavlich (though they used him mostly as a forward and got him to stack kilos on)
Technically Waite but he went the same route as Pavlich
Fyfe
Goodes
Bontempelli

That being said, Cripps is 196-197.

Listed as 195 on the CFC website.

Cripps forward is an interesting discussion. Seems to be 2 very different trains of thought on the matter. I dont see him as a forward personally, but you can't underestimate the ability of a champion to find a way.
He’ll never get to Dangers output re forward craft BUT he can very dangerous up there. He could even take ruck stoppages…….🤦

The difference between Cripps as a forward and Dangerfield or Martin is that Cripps is a key position size.

He may not be explosive as the best medium forwards, but he's more than mobile to be a second key in a rotation

Mars from TJP says Jagga might just be our best player by the end of the year. Mouth Watering prospect
Jeepas, no pressure.
FFS - let the kid grow and develop. We aren’t Collingwood, he and us don’t need this $h1t.

Yep, and the key to being not too slow and immobile in the midfield is being able to rotate forwards through there. That means some of the mids have to spend some time forward as well. If we can limit the amount of time Cripps and Hewett spend in the middle together we shouldn't have any real issues there.

The key to Cripps impacting forward is making sure he doesn't have a really strong defender on him. If the better defenders are on McKay, O'Keeffe and Kemp then Cripps is likely to have someone he can exploit.

Me personally, I am just super excited to see Jagga play a game in Navy

I don't really think too highly of Carlton generally - Wouldn't be in my top 15 teams

But me too, I don't think I have been as excited for a non Suns player ever. I think he is going to be generationally awesome, not just for the baggers, but for footy in general. I'll be watching with interest
