News Justin Reid Departs

It’s not all Hamish - and players like Keane, Reid needs to get the deal done while competing with other clubs, as he did with the Cotton deal.

Regardless - Hamish has never been held accountable for some of his horror first round drafting that set our club back in the early rebuild stages - Ned, Jones, McAsey and Gullucci - all first round duds
Never been held accountable ?? Not sure thats right.

No recruiter gets every call right. His drafting either side of those well documented failures has been quite good.

Reid has been really good for years. Gibbs IN and Brad Crouch OUT his only real demerits, and the Crouch one was mostly AFL bastardry. I’d go so far as to say he’s been our best off field operator for the past five years. Dawson and Rankine in very good. Ah Chee very good. Doedee very good. Young talent signed up long term.

He’s a real loss.

He’s been good but there’s more misses than that, not trading up in the superdraft, pushing Lyons out the door and getting **** all, ROBs latest contract, lack of quality midfield in a rebuild, ruck list strategy

Super draft as in the 2018 draft? He tried to trade up for both Rozee and Rankine and couldn’t get it done because our first pick wasn’t high enough. Tried to trade up for JHF and Sharp as well, did trade up for Curtin. Definitely hasn’t been due to a lack of trying

Pretty frustrating this happens now and not October last year.
October would be the worst possible time, surely? Right in the lead-up to delistings, trade period, etc?

Honestly, this is probably the best time of year for it to happen. No disruption to the season, list mostly set in stone for the year, a good 6+ months for the new person to get the lay of the land, and so on.

Huh, it's better to happen now after list management period!

Gives time for the new person to get settled before the busy period.

We're we rebuilding in 2016 when we picked up Gallucci?

Yep, Ned and Jones misses, but he picked up Worrell the same year as McAsey, so evened out.

Drafting isn't an exact science, all recruiters get it wrong sometimes, even then best ones.

6 - Granger Barrass (Hawks)
16 - Cooper Stephens (Cats)
9 - Jhye Clark (Cats)
5 - Dylan Stephens (Swans)
14 - Matt Ling (swans)

After trade period i meant, in October. All discussions on delistings etc would be pretty much done.
The draft sits more with Hamish.

Now we can't get anyone though, they're tied to other clubs.
That's not true!

Best person may be working for a player management group.

We should have traded out Lynch that year, when he still had real value. Would have got us in top 5 range.

It’s quite possible that list managers contracts end around now (and fits with Reid moving now) given their “season” isn’t in line with footy season at all really

List manager is a football department role. Their contracts would run 1st Nov to 31st Oct.
