That's not really true given what he was to the club and how much he was adored by many fans. You can't (or shouldn't) take emotion and narrative out of footy, otherwise what's the point?

He did some incredible stuff like the two Coleman medals straight after being injured for close to two full years. The memories will always be there. I worded my post harshly and I’ll cop that.

But I also see a player who completely gave up last year when this club has stood by him through thick and thin for years and he still had years to run on his contract. I am certainly not disappointed he was traded and I look forward to seeing how the club will use the salary cap space we have saved.

When i read the more collaborative coach and open to ideas, i really hope that doesnt take away from the straight talking my way or the highway coach, that had a very good first two seasons.

I would rather have the strict task master and quality assistants around him to manage other areas.

I feel so many of the recent premiership coaches all have a bit of prick about them.
I took it more to mean a willingness to listen and adapt/reassess when things aren’t working, rather than just plowing on with a game plan that everyone figured out two years ago. I think we started to see this in the latter stages of 25.

Didn’t take it to mean he will lose his hard edge - he has the group’s respect as a leader, and his natural “follow me” style was a big reason we jumped up the ladder in ‘22 and ‘23 as you mentioned. The feedback has been about his stubbornness and inflexibility regarding game plan since then, which it seems he may have (finally) taken on board.

Based on this brief convo, I reckon we’ll see a refreshed group that enjoys their footy a lot more. Hopefully we surprise a few.

We added multiple mid range players who likely earn more than those getting a game last year. I’m not convinced Chuck leaving has freed up bags of space.

TDK and SOS too. Plus Gov, Saad and Williams after this year (Williams probably is the only one to get a new contract).

We have saved some very good coin to hit free agency this year if we want to.

Me to our Salary Cap this off season.

One of our new recruits in particular is very keen to stick it up their former club and do not think highly of them.

It can’t be the two former Sydney players because everyone seems to think highly of the Swans. So that certainly narrows it down a bit. :p

Unless of course Harry Dean has a beef with the Murray Bushrangers…?

unrelated to the initial post but i've heard there are a number of swans players who loved horse who are shocked at how different the dean cox era has been. it could easily be ainsworth, reidy or chesser but i'd say one or both of hayward and florent would be thinking the same.

When you’re forced out of the club to accommodate a conditional Charlie I would be wanting to prove something also!

I have no knowledge but I agree it’s one of the ex swans and my guess is Hayward. Hayward didn’t mince his words when he was interviewed after the trade period. He sounded pretty pissed off at being traded from the club that he loved and I think he blames Cox for forcing him out. I reckon he’s gonna be very motivated to have a very good year.

I had heard a few things about how a lot of players were not happy with how Cox ran the preseason last year. Caught a lot of guys offside after the repeat 2k time trials, rewatching the grand final etc. So wouldn’t surprise me if it’s either Hayward or Florent

I reckon it's Hayward.

When he speaks, you can tell he was pretty unimpressed by how the Swans conducted themselves through trade period.

Not to the extent of being petty but he has a fair few subtle digs.

Don't really hear it as much when Ollie talks.

Ainsworth seems pretty pragmatic about his move and wasnt pushed out as much as the other 2.

Reidy would surely have known he was up against it being behind Darcy and Jackson. Freo drafted him from the VFL and let him go cheap so not sure he has much reason to be upset.

He was repeatedly overlooked even as the number two when injury hit Darcy. Voss, even Oscar MacDonald were played as second ruck in preference despite his award winning performances in the. Twos.

I think it’s florent. Was a regular under horse. List his spot after being top 5 bnf in a grand final year despite dominating at lower level. Will be brilliant for Carlton. Joining Hewett and Newman as Carlton stars.
Has to be Florent especially when he was pretty much told they don’t want him anymore
