Richmond player Mykelti Lefau has been caught by police at more than double the legal alcohol limit.
The 27-year-old was nabbed on the weekend and delivered a blood alcohol reading of .108.
Lefau, who missed almost all of last year due to an ACL injury and calf issues, kicked three goals in the Tigers’ match simulation against Essendon on Friday, spoke a fortnight ago of his keenness to crack into 2026 after a “tough” last 12 months.
“It gives you the time to fine-tune the things you really need to work on,” he told Channel 7 earlier this month.
“Especially for me, a developing player in the AFL system, you just get to learn around the boys like Lynchy (forward Tom Lynch), just watching extra vision.
“There’s going to be no pressure, but everyone’s seen from (Adem) Yze that we want to go all in this season. That’s our focus for the season, going all in and playing how we want to play.”
Richmond assistant coach Jack Ziebell said on Friday that Lefau had shown he was “powerful and a big strong boy”.
“He went through a bit last year and tore his calf,” Ziebell said. “For him to get up and do a full pre-season and show what he’s capable of out there today is really pleasing for us.”|
Both Richmond and Victoria Police have been contacted for comment.

Really dumb. Should be suspended for at least 4-6 weeks. Was looking great in pre-season so this is very very stupid by Lefau.

Inexcusable by any player, let alone one that is on the comeback from a serious injury, and trying to entrench himself in the 23…What’s done is done, but as long as the AFL is consistent…Speed kills as well (Bailey Smith 30 over) and there was absolute crickets…
