I watched I Spit on Your Grave, the 1978 rape & revenge, exploitation movie. Not as bad as you might imagine, the female lead is pretty good, the support actors are OK and there is lots of ball busting action. What's not to like? Roger Ebert gave the film no stars, referring to it as "A vile bag of garbage", that's about the highest recommendation any exploitation flick can get!

Terry Zarchi, the son of writer-director Meir Zarchi, made a documentary a few years ago called 'Growing Up With I Spit On Your Grave' (2019). It's also available on Tubi. The doco recounted a real life incident Zarchi witnessed that inspired him to write the script. I was surprised to learn that Zarchi and Camille Keaton married after filming.

This is Siskel and Ebert nominating 'I Spit on Your Grave' as the worst cinema release of 1980 (from 24:20)

I’m a straight man but I don’t get the Turner love. Dua Lipa is making a huge mistake 😂
FULLY agree! The whole runtime I was thinking "Him...Seriously?"
There's this new wave of dudes being thrust upon us & told "these are the IT guys"
And I honestly dont see IT.
They're fine actors (& each to their own) but industry standards haven't changed that much have they??

Don't come at my boy Barry like that

Sirāt - probably one of those movies where the less you know going in the better, this commences with a Spanish father and son looking for their daughter/sister at a Moroccan desert rave. It goes in a pretty wild direction, and while I was entertained (and at times had my heart in my mouth), I'm a little unsure what to make of it as an immediate reaction. It explores a theme that I enjoy (people being too preoccupied with the trivialities of their lives while much bigger things are going on) but I'm not sure it made that point as coherently as, say, the recent film Afire, particularly in moments that shock, seemingly for the sake of it. Nonetheless, the shocks work and the tension is undeniable.

So keen for Sirat. Only skimmed your review cos I wanna go in FRESH

I don't know why people make out like Chalamet's not conventionally attractive, like he doesn't perfectly fit the Montgomery Clift/Alain Delon/Tony Leung/River Phoenix/Leonardo DiCaprio "pretty boy" mould.

Is top left Matty Healy from The 1975? If it's an actor, I don't recognise them from that angle.

This literally happens every generation because yes they do change that much.

There’s plenty of quite amusing insta reels and the like of women showing their daughters their crushes and the daughter yucking them.

Having said that I don’t think Callum Turner exists in the “rodent hot” group.

He’s on the Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi tall charming dude group.

Honestly that whole group (with maybe the exception of Keoghan but we dont yuck yums) are a bunch of fairly handsome looking dudes.

Jeremy Allen White was a ****ing Calvin Klein underwear model.

Actors generally need some sort of character in their looks but it’s not as if every “heart throb” looked like a genetically engineered handsome guy. Bruce Willis, Sly hell Joaquin Phoenix was a heart throb in the 90s and he was born with an actual facial disfigurement.

Lotta old man yelling at clouds energy about it.

Yeah it's Matty Healy

Give me Glen Powell over those guys every day. I do realise I'm probably not the best equipped to be commenting on this though :tearsofjoy:

As the president and number 1 ticket holder of the GP fan club I say why not both.

EPiC - Elvis Presley in Concert

We've never been fans but this is worth seeing. Amazing voice, incredible charisma.

Not a doco as such, no actual interviews or history. It's not his life story. A lot of snippets of songs, rehearsals, his comments. His concerts in Las Vegas - he was doing 3 a day to packed houses.

Between 1969 (after the army) and 1977 he did 1100 performances.

I was just stirring a bit but I watched Eternity recently and I personally would have picked Miles Teller over him.
well SAME but
that's because of the characters and the script. Larry made her laugh, they'd experienced a whole life together. Luke had not experienced life after the age of what, 23? It's a no-brainer of a choice to me.
and as two actual human beings, not characters...Miles Teller vs Callum Turner is a problem I would love to have
:tearsofjoy:

Miles Teller also not considered a traditionally handsome lead when he burst on the scene, also has a prominent facial scar ALSO just a beautiful looking man.

Days of Heaven (1978) - I frequently go with this as my favourite film ever but had never seen it at a cinema, until now. Yeah, the sheer beauty of its images and music are only greater seeing it this way. Every frame could be put in an art gallery. Such a beautifully gentle film, such romanticism.

It has to be one of the most exquisitely shot movies ever made. I watched the Criterion Collection Blu-ray version on 70" TV and it looked amazing. I can imagine it would be more immersive at the cinema.

There's a fairly simple plot, well told. I'm not much of a fan of voice-overs but this one worked for me. I couldn't quite get over my aversion to Richard Gere but Sam Shepard and Brooke Adams were great.
