Brought the required intensity for about 10 minutes to start the 3rd. That's the only thing that really needs to change next week.

I won't name names but 3 or 4 of our big blokes with big reputations would be feeling sheepish after that game, they were thoroughly beaten in the air, and then sieved in transition by younger, and often smaller opponents.

The result doesn’t matter even though I would have liked us to play better. Dogs had a noticeably higher intensity than us and we looked sluggish. I’ll be concerned if we put up a similar effort vs GWS.

General trends:
  • Midfield seemed to be generating enough opportunity and inside 50s. Suggests we can put on a score especially when we clean up our delivery.
  • We’d taken 4 marks for 34 inside 50s in the first half. Suggests our delivery and leading patterns were poor.
  • Dogs rebound was difficult to shut down. Suggests our forwards and midfielders need to better at defending transition.
  • Backline looked very vulnerable at defending the ground ball. Senior players especially poor here.
  • Won’t panic after one game but Meek has had two practice games where he’s looked very average. Ruck rules seem to hurt us.
  • A lot of our better players didn’t really fire a shot. Newcombe and Gunston (before being rested) the exceptions.
Meek strength has never been his tap work it’s his mobility. So the ruck rules won’t have much of an effect on him. English beats him in the practice games. Meek wins when the real stuff happens.

Just to put the game into perspective, from the 30 minute mark of the 2nd qtr to the final siren, both sides scored 6.5 apiece. Old story of giving a start.

Didn't we get smacked by the dogs in the praccy last year?

Not concerned.

Mass was also a worry tonight. Wouldn't wanna be dishing that up again.

Weddle dropping chest marks.

We'd wanna lift. And fast.
I’m personally not concerned my friend. We have never been a pre-season team, these games are for trialing things and gaining experience.

Happy to accept we treated tonight very differently to the dogs. Was never about the score.

For me it was watching our mids and players I think have a point to prove.

Tonight, I kind of agree with Ken and Lyon. For a few minutes here and there we have guys step into midfield. But it's a worry how we go toe to toe with the best sides here... Nash hasn't inspired at all in preseason. Ward looks good. Mackenzie showed glimpses tonight. But gee that's light on.

Dear is out of the mix and Lewis who has more to prove than most hasn't brought it.

No idea what's happened to Mass.
