Damn what a great game. Looks like we saved our best bullpen arms for Korea which is the smart move.

I'm so damn proud of these guys. After all the talk about how we fluked getting to quaterfinals last WBC and we come back looking even better.

I still remember the 7-1 loss to Japan last WBC with Ohtani scoring 4 runs himself with a massive HR. We looked so much better this time, and somehow kept Ohtani and Suzuki on a leash who are both in red hot form.

Just 1 more win against Korea and we're off to Miami again.

What an effort!

We lead! We fought back! A stray throw ultimately the difference.

The atmosphere at Tokyo Dome is insane. The active area was in full voice an hour before the game. The locals were incredibly respectful too. The ones in front of us commented to us about how well we played.

Must say I was very disappointed in the merch store - zero Team Australia stuff (and I passed on the $200 they wanted for the replica Ohtani jerseys)

Money and politics aside the shortcut is to have a homegrown superstar. Look what Fernando mania did for Meixcan baseball. Or Nomo did for Japanese baseball, and now Ohtani. Yao Ming pretty much single handily made China the biggest NBA market in the world.

And guess what, for the first time ever we have a potential superstar candidate in Bazzana. Obviously it's way too early to predict anything but he has all the tools to be a star.

Yes, it's simple and we don't have to overthink it.

Kewell and Viduka become stars in the EPL and people became more interested in soccer.

Gaze and Heal make the NBA in the 90's which started a trickle that then gained momentum with Bogut and Mills.

And now we will have Australians potentially becoming the best punters in the NFL.

Feel so bad for Jon this morning. To make it worse, the shortstop is his cousin.

Started yesterday with a 6am drive to Geelong so my son could play his grand final for summer league. They lost 4-3.

Drove back to the city to watch the grand prix. Piastri crashes on the formation lap.

Then Australia takes a 1-0 lead over Japan and should have carried it into the eighth but for a poor throw that Dale would have made to Kennedy a million times growing up and playing club ball.

I'm incredibly biased because I know Jon (he has coached my son and his brother was my son's winter coach). He is a lovely bloke who has done so much for baseball in this country.

But having said that, he did have a poor inning to Ohtani and Suzuki. He almost hit Shohei twice and left a few over the plate to Seiya. The pitch he threw to Yoshida that Yoshida hit out wasn't his worst pitch, but that's what happens when you miss your spots to major league hitters.

Still, they have the chance to advance tonight with a win, so let's get after it.

MLB is milking the Perkins pick off of the Japanese player in the bases loaded situation for all it can. Good to see. Robbie has form, too. He caught Edman stealing three years ago in the bottom of the ninth with two out to help Australia beat Korea.
