He missed his chance. The time to come was last year. This year we'll be selling the farm for Butters.
The way we played on the weekend he'd swap in for JOD nicely. Good sizeWe would really need to believe our team defence and structure can hold up because he still has a lot of heart in mouth moments and like Lobb plays better as a loose man.
I may be misquoting stats here, but I think someone shared that we faced 6 1v1s in our d50, while Brisbane faced something like 17? It's clearly been a result of an adjustment to our game plan that we're aiming to avoid our keys being isolated, whereas Brisbane's talls can be backed to at least neutralize the contest. Agree with you - swap Keane for JOD and we're a considerably stronger side. The way we played on the weekend he'd swap in for JOD nicely. Good size
We also slingshot out of the back half quite a bit. Butts is a much slower user of the ball than Keane, who also moves very well for his size.I may be misquoting stats here, but I think someone shared that we faced 6 1v1s in our d50, while Brisbane faced something like 17? I'd imagine if we wanted to go down the path of stronger 1 on 1 key defenders and allowing for even contests down back, we'd have chased Butts instead of Keane

Kennedy's only 28 (soon to be 29) if that's who you're referring to. I'd hope he could play at this level for at least a couple more years. He's certainly been a great acquisition at no great cost to us.Libba's likely final year. We need to protect Bont so he can rest forward. Kennedy not getting any younger.
He needs to hold out for one more year.
Keane really would be a fantastic fit in our side. He's explored a trade back to Vic twice now (actively tried to get to Pies, then "considered" our offer but Crows rejected) so I'd imagine the interest will remain. We also slingshot out of the back half quite a bit. A notable adjustment for me was that we worked a lot harder at protecting the corridor. It's a lot harder for the other team to get the ball in quickly when they are being forced to go wide.I may be misquoting stats here, but I think someone shared that we faced 6 1v1s in our d50, while Brisbane faced something like 17? I suspect they let MK go for culture reasons. It's very funny that Carlton fans defend that decision and point to George Hewett's season as a reason to justify it. Carlton have no idea.

So who comes off the list to fit them all in?****, forgot about Hok.
We're gonna need to do some serious shuffling to get what we need for this off season.
West, Cooney, Marial and El Souki would all be on draftee contracts. Any trade ins would be funded by money set aside for the Wilkie/Keane pursuit / removal of the JUH contract, plus retirement of Harmes. It's made easier if Libba and Treloar retire, if Busslinger gets traded, Coffield delisted, and especially if Sanders is traded. So who comes off the list to fit them all in?
Libba
Treloar

Garcia is contracted and don’t think anyone will be interested so he stays. Libba might get another year. Agree with the rest barring a Baker like resurrection. Khamis may have another look depending on whether he stays in the team or not.West, Cooney, Marial and El Souki would all be on draftee contracts. I honestly don't think we'd have any trouble fitting in Butters to begin with, and can easily see one more big contract on top given all the space being freed up over the last few years.
Unless you meant list spots, in which case:
Libba (retire), Treloar (retire), Busslinger (trade), Coffield (delist), Garcia (trade), McNeil (delist), Gardner (retire/delist). Then guys like Walker, Kennedy, Smith and Gags are out of contract and will need to earn their next contracts
Yeah we have Garcia for 2027 but I figured given the prior interest from West Coast and Port that we couldn't rule out a trade (and he would presumably have a similar contract size to Harmes - replacing that with a draftee contract potentially frees up another $300-400k per year). Hoping we extend Khamis in the first half of this year provided the last few weeks haven't been a complete fluke. Really like the look of him down back and I'm glad he's settled in a position nowGarcia is contracted and don’t think anyone will be interested so he stays. Libba might get another year. Unless he completely drops off a cliff, I can see Libba going again. Garcia is an interesting one.Unless he completely drops off a cliff, I can see Libba going again. He’s durable like his old man and seems to be ageing like fine wine
