I think there is more grabbing and fouling now being let go, but the even bigger issue is that keepers have basically been completely removed from the equation at corners. So many corners these days would’ve been easily caught or punched out by the keeper but now their blocked from even trying to get involved.

The amount of pundits having a sook and making themselves look like absolute sooks is pretty hilarious.

Or people are just observing that there's issues to be dealt with in the Laws of the Games if we don't want set pieces descending into complete farces?

Would you have the same opinion if it wasnt Arsenal leading the league doing it?

I guess winners are grinners so you can put up with it easily atm.

No they're legitimately sooking. Go have a listen what Schmeichel, Butt, Obi Mikel, and Scholes just to name a few have had to say.

Until someone said they were breaking rules, no.

We've not been able to win ugly for years and now that we have mongrel about us we are being slammed for doing so. Every Arsenal fan is enjoying the tears.

Yeah i dunno, ive got Arsenal supporting mates who hate the way you play and find it really boring to watch. But having not won a major trophy for 20 plus are happy to accept it.

There's a certain irony in your username considering he loved beautiful football and yet you're defending some of the ugliest football the game has ever seen.

If teams came and actually had a crack and not set the low block or park the bus etc , we would have a better spectacle.
Guardiola himself admitted he had to go defensive when he came to The Emirates !
The great Pep !!
Teams don’t want to go toe to toe with Arsenal because it probably ends badly.
So Arsenal have to find another way.

I completely understand why it's occurring, it doesn't stop it being horrible to watch.

If it wins you the title, no Arsenal supporter will care (and rightfully so).

LFC were 30 years and were not playing like that, but as you say, if you win it, who cares.

Yes that’s a thing now with pundits seeking the limelight and wanting to remain relevant, use sensationalist and inflammatory language like the tweet that was posted earlier and it drives discussion and engagement. Like now.

This was a decent piece on the very topic:

Yep, and I agree. But where has playing pretty and attractive football got us recently? A semi final and three second places.

If teams came and actively tried to play against us rather than putting 11 behind the ball we'd not be having this conversation/. When does the criticism for opponents come for playing negative football to suffocate the way we play?

Absolutely. Teams are scared. They come and play against us, we get space and then we torch teams. So they play super defensive but it's our fault. Go figure.

It's a good idea but IFAB doesn't seem interested in changing the law around corners.

If the world cup turns into a farce they might change their tune.

Any team at Australia's level should be bringing it. Go full Livingston. Pick the biggest team possible and play for the set pieces.

I’ve always done this type of stuff playing myself. A little shirt tug here and there. People act like it’s never been around. I don’t think it’s any worse that before. Skrtel and co did this years ago.

It’s up to the referees to actually crack down on it. Players will find ways to skirt the line no matter where you draw the line.
Only skim-read this, but: playing with yourself, a bit of rub-and-tug here and there - it's fine. Just keep it in the privacy of your own home.

Been reading a bit about Van De Ven lately, I reckon he's a world class LB playing the wrong position. Brilliant at driving with the ball, fast as **** and a good one on one defender. I reckon Liverpool or someone should buy him and play him LB. He'd played there like 3 times under Ange and was so good, just never got the chance really with all the injuries to other CBs and himself

13 available outfield players again this week after romero and paulinha concussed each other

We could probably start with all 13 and get smashed by Liverpools starting XI this weekend

Jatz SM please tell me the championship more interesting to watch than this turgid top division nonsense

No var is cool.

I did wonder if anything would happen with Neto’s conduct after the red card. He lingered for a long time continuing to mouth off (would’ve thought he learned his lesson from minutes before as that’s how he got himself booked to begin with). No other players or leaders really approached him either to usher him off, that was quite noticeable.

Meanwhile, have heard similar comments from the recent line of managers at Spurs. Tudor seems to be the latest essentially saying the same thing.

Yeah, you can put up with the boring football if it gets results. Like we did under Mou. Which is very similar to what Arsenal fans are doing now

I never, ever noticed this much sooking about Moaninho's sides. I did notice a fair bit of pointing and laughing about our beautiful style in Wenger's later years though.

Because even Jose's sides had Lampard scoring rockets from outside the box and Drogba scoring world class goals

Arsenal have corners, free kicks and death by attrition

That’s the circular argument here, much of that is game state. Arsenal consistently face the lowest blocks across the league so need to find ways to unlock the game. Because when teams step up to play, such as Spurs twice this season, they get pounded with 8 open play goals.

Arsenal have been consistently criticised for only having one way of playing, beautiful Wenger style football that looks lovely in goal compilation clips but ultimately you finish 4th and get dismissed by by Barca or Bayern Munich in the CL knockouts. This current iteration of Arsenal has developed that hard edge win whichever way possible approach many criticised was lacking for so many years.

Atletico Madrid stepped up to play a few months ago and were dismantled 4-0. Teams shit themselves seeing that so that they sit back and adjust their tactics understandably. It will be the same tonight with Moyes visiting The Emirates. They will set up accordingly and that’s fine, that’s the nature of football, the onus is on Arsenal to continue to find ways to overcome it.
