At 31 surely you would trade wines for a second probably, but i think hes worth more to keep in terms of just keeping the list profile not too young and lacking experience.
I wouldn't trade him for a second in the current landscape. You can't use that pick to match bids and I don't really see the second rounder benefitting is, in the sense its a hit or miss thing and Wines imo has another 3 years to go at least where his experience will help.

Yeah wines has value to us on our list but no trade value at his age and that managed heart condition. If Tassie were coming in this offseason he would be a perfect target just to get a leader and mature body even knowing there’s zero clarity around how much longer he plays for.

I don’t think they would bother in 2027.

Still worth a spot on our list for sure.

Guess it depends on how deep they cut the list. I think he’s worth keeping but I’ve seen people wanting to cut 8-10 players. If the club cuts that deep 2nds will be good to have. I don’t think this years draft is overly compromised (at this stage).

Would rather keep our first Brownlow medalist a one club player, I think that develops a club and culture, a legacy for want of a better word, than shipping him off for a couple of magic beans in the second round.

Agree totally. On the footy side, we missed his grunt work last week badly. He's underrated these days in my view. Just not a wingman.

Malthouse talked about how in 2002 he walked in and told anyone who wanted to leave could because he didnt think they had the list. We are in a slightly different situation.

Aside our core group Carr should absolutely move guys on. We need a structural rebuild.

Push hard on Butters given we would like to think he wont want bad blood. Force him to Richmond/Essendon.

Essendon could give Merrett what he wants and get Butters. We could end up with 4,6 and 12 and more for example at the table and do a Freo and get 6,7,8 like they got Serong, Young and Henry.

Aliir - liability one on one, re sign as hes needed
BZT - Trade/Keep 50/50
Lachie Jones - Trade
Mead - Delist
DBJ - Trade
Soldo Delist
Lord Trade
Evans - ???
Drew -explore options too slow, lacks Neales skills to compensate.

Ansta, Barrett, Obrien Walsh, lorenz, Moss, Zadow, Liddy, Lai, Mckinley, moss, watkins. Give them some games and see what they offer. Keep the best, others can be delisted.

More game time for Moraes and Cochrane.
Berry and Richards must come good this seadon.

Keep and re sign

Ramm,
Visentini - extend
Witlock - Extend
Wines - Extend if his metrics are good
Sweet - Extend 1 year

We need to draft a top line kpd, we need fast mids and seek improvement from the core.

This. The club needs to repay loyalty with loyalty. You can't have it only one way.

Not a great deal on the unrestricted free agent list. Joel Amartey is interesting but not a need for us. If Khamis keeps this form up then I'd be looking at throwing some serious coin at him.

I though Zac Bailey was a UFA at the end of the year?

Edit: double checked and he is only in his 9th season. Apparently players in the top 25% of earners at a club remain RFA until after their 10th season.

You do realise Butters wants to win flags. No way in hell would Butters ever entertain the thought out of playing for Essendon or Richmond.

He can find himself at Brisbane and still May not see a flag, it’s not that simple. Richmond’s list looks good.

They should adjust points values for draft selections/matching bids during the Tasmania concessions.

As in pick 10 wont be your usual pick 10 with Tassie monopolising the top end of the draft and everyone else dropping down positions.

Give it a higher value than usual for example.

The AFL inserting free agency compo picks and priority picks as well during normal years also shouldn't have an impact on a picks value. And with that picks also shouldn't increase in value when selections ahead of them are removed due to bid matching.

Compo and Priority picks should be given a value of where they sit. ie End of first round compo gets pick 19s point value. And if there are three end of first round compo picks, they all get the same value, and pick 20 keeps its value.

They would be idiots not to look at it.

Currently there’s no points after pick 50.

Last years draft the 2nd round ended at 45 , and probably blew out past that at some stage before coming in with bids.

The expan draft will see a dozen picks given to Tassie

Basically only the first round and maybe first half of 2nd round will actually have any points value. And those mid 2nd round picks ending up around just before pic 50 will be worth a measly sub 200 points. You prob need 1st rounder or a second rounder from a bottom 5 team to be worth decent amount of points.

Good luck matching bids.

We expect loyalty from our players, but when they're coming to an end, we're happy to just dispose of them.

Wines is just as much a Port Adelaide legend as Boak is. They came for him, just like they did Boak, and he chose to stay.

Surely he plays out his days at Port and retires.

Knowing the AFL, nobody with the power to do anything will even notice this is an issue until draft night.

Then they'll announced an update to pick points values in the middle of the second round.

Not a free agent, but one bloke I'd look at for a forward ruck role and maybe even full time ruck role in the future is Isaac Keeler. The modern ruck rules suit him
If we have draft picks to use, i.e. if Butters leaves, we should be looking at all the SA players from the 2024 draft.

Dodson would be great. Clarke, West, etc. maybe even Whitlock as a CHB.

I have a feeling Dodson gets to Crows end of the year. Hope I'm wrong. But he's another one I'd strongly consider as well
