For a very long time now our highest possession winners week after week are our defenders. That is just ridiculous. We’ve become a back half team

The problem is according to the players, they are not intending to play this way apparently.

The problem seems to be that we need a default setting.

When it's practically game over and there's nothing to lose, suddenly there's risk taking, play on at all costs, fast ball movement.

There's no choice to be made.

When we have a choice though and the game is still ahead of us, we choose safe.

The first half was so unbelievably consistent and drilled we have to be trying to play that way...? It can't be an accident that everyone is on identical wrong wavelengths

It's frustrating to her Daws say post-game that we started playing 'our game' in the last quarter. If it's how we want to play, why don't we for the rest of the game?

To be fair that web like defense of the dogs was something else. That was the hardest i have seen a side block up the space for a long time and their ability to link and then beat our press via handball was top drawer. I am now quite confident for the geelong game as they won't be able to hit us with that kind of game and once we got free of it in the last we scored rapidly.

Once we took the lead on Rankine's amazing goal some players thought the game was won. We slowed it down. I knew were were going to lose with about 5 minutes to play. The better side won tonight, their tackling pressure was great especially inside 50. We should have tried to go for the kill, we slowed it down and their pressure was non stop relentless.

Great teams fight to the finish line. Got to keep attacking because we are terrible when it comes to defending a lead. Brisbane in the 2024 and 2025 finals are a great example of that because they never dropped back.

Did we get lucky last year with all those close wins, possibly. Well we did attack to the finish more often. Had unexpected upset wins over Brisbane, Hawthorn and Collingwood (although the later two learnt from it in the finals).

Next week vs Geelong is going to be hell. Staring down a 1-2 start. We won't be getting to within a goal of Geelong that is for sure. They are going to destroy us by 10 goals if we play like this. Haven't won on that ground for 23 years, they have been a great side but even in the few seasons since 2004 they have missed the finals we could still not beat them there.

Was 2025 a fluke for Adelaide? = We'll find out over the next 21 games.

Are we good enough to return to the finals? = For sure, if we change the way we play.
