I think one of the big issues our ball movement has hit is Laird isn't able to be the guy you are mentioning, but we're still in the "shocked" phase of a player falling off a cliff. Where we are still looking for him to be a key player in driving the ball forwards when we're trying to get out of the backline but he just can't. We are probably at the stage that just removing him as a option likely causes an offensive spike without factoring in who replaces him.
Great post.
I think you're right. The players around Laird are expecting him to be/play better than what he is actually producing.
Nicks loves Laird, keeps picking him no matter what.
The stats are thorough and damning and strong, no, overwhelming evidence he should be tapped on the shoulder.

Curtin was very good last year mate, given it was his second season. He was best on ground in multiple games and had huge moments in plenty of games.

I think we are already noticing his absence.

I’m exceptionally happy with his season, I reckon he’s going to be a gun. But you’ve qualified his year due to his inexperience. He was poor early playing ahead of the ball, played a bit better when moving to a wing and then seemed gassed to finish the year. If By ‘multiple’ BOG you mean 2, then o agree, but it’s fantasy to think there were more than that.

Let’s assume Dawson, Worrell, Ah Chee and Laird are all out.

In:
Charlie Edwards in for Jordan Dawson
James Borlase in for Josh Worrell
Luke Nankervis in for Callum Ah Chee
Hugh Bond in for Rory Laird

What have I missed with Dawson? Worrell played out the game

It's not overwhelming evidence at this point, it's just a really bad two weeks. It's why I called it the "shocked" phase, where teams become paralyzed because they'll give a player time to prove he ain't getting back up (the form is temporary, class is permanent adage).

In saying that, if we had drafted* potential A-grade half back flanker in the last couple of years, Laird is tossed out pretty quickly at this point. It's now a very big fortnight for Cook, should we be willing to put our money where our mouth was and play him at half back.

* and I think we have, just that we've yet to pull the trigger on that switch for Marsh.

A Monday debut announcement is certainly something.
Thursday game with travel likely later tomorrow for a captains run Wednesday. Seems early but I mean I see the reasoning.
