Those movies have always existed, they just used to be easier to spot and avoid because they were the 'Straight to DVD" movies you could spot in the local Video Ezy/Blockbuster and just not rent. Now they are much more accessible on the streaming apps.
Yeah but they used to star Eric Roberts & a lesser Baldwin Brother now they have
A list actors & cost 100 mil...to be that bad.
Its a whole new genre to me.

To be fair, Eric Roberts is still in a hundred movies a year.

I watched Inception last night for the first time and saw it in 35mm at the Como theatre. Probably need another rewatch to get the full grasp of it but still really enjoyed it and kept me engaged throughout.

Starting a space binge at the moment after Project Hail Mary.

Finally watched Moon (2009). Holy shit Sam Rockwell is amazing. Utterly depressing movie but really well done. 9/10.

Agreed! I couldn't make it through either one.
A problem I never previously had until this new wave of "netflixification"
I'll often start a film & think "this isn't real, these people dont care about the audience...is this green-screen? 🥲"

Like this was filmed as a proper stunt I believe no green screen. But as you say the netflixication makes it all bland.

Sunshine is awesome.

Need to give Ad Astra and First Man another go, don't think I fully appreciated them first time around.

Enjoyed Life - good popcorn flick.

I'll add:
Pitch Black
Apollo 13
Event Horizon

Space movies rock.

Haven't listened yet but I've bookmarked this episode of House of R (CR and Rob Mahoney are guests)

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man

Outside of the nostalgia, boy was this disappointing. I don't remember the last time I watched a flick with such a weak plot. Nothing really happens until the last 20 mins and it all felt a bit telegraphed in any sense.

Really disappointed. The cast was there (I thought Barry did a good job) but the story just wasn't.

6/10

That 2001: A Space Odyssey goes alright too.

My top 10 sci fi ..

1. Space Odyssey
2. Bladerunner
3. Alien
4. Arrival
5. Close Encounters
6. Terminator 2
7. Star Wars
8. Children Of Men
9. Mad Max 2
10. Bladerunner 2049

Official Competition (2021)
Penelope Cruz
Antonio Banderas
Oscar Martinez

Film about a rich tycoon wanting to be remembered the best way he can. So he chooses to commission a screenplay which is an adaptation of a highly regarded novel and wants the best team to do it.

Penelope is quite funny in this as the very quirky and unorthodox director. Banderas as Felix, the unserious A lister.

This film made me laugh. I started watching it and I couldn’t stop.
Lots of ego on display between Cruz and Bandares characters. Martinez plays the very dedicated method actor cast to play the brother of Felix for the film they are making.

I guess this is where the lynch mob forms where I say I don't like sci-fi.

We don't all have to like every genre of entertainment mate. Beauty of so many things to watch these days.

Best sci-fi...

It's like trying to choose a favourite child, can't be done.

I started reading sci-fi in my early teens and I've been hooked ever since.

There's so much scope for exploring the human condition, whether it's interactions with AI and robots, struggles in dystopian societies or conflicts between empires.

It can look amazing on screen such as Blade Runner, Dune, The Matrix.

There's a near-future predictive element to it. I remember watching Thunderbirds as a kid and they were video calling each other across the world by devices on their wrists. I never imagined it would happen in my lifetime. The novel 2001: A Space Odyssey was published in 1968. At the time, talking to an artificial intelligence seemed far fetched.
