The whole Butters situation about us being front runners and near on guaranteed is very similar to the Bailey Sniff going to Geelong talk, so essentially lock it in, I’d be shocked as we all would if he is not at whitten oval by the end of trade week. We are all being linked by media throughout all platforms, it’s a done deal.

Now I’ve seen it all - Bombers fans clutching their pearls saying they are getting Hinkley and he will bring Butters with him 😆

Well it is conceivable. If his relationship with Kenny is as strong as presented, it could be a factor. Hopefully his relationship and connection with the Bont and the doggies is stronger.

He’s 25, their list is a car crash. None of their young players from the previous years look anything more than average or slightly above. Their senior players are meh. Sure Kenny is a good guy, but you really think in the prime of his career he’d go there when he can walk into a side with a list who is set up for several years of contending and a coach who is every bit of a ball cupper as Kenny is.

If he leaves Port to go there over us I will spew up

A big part of the issue is how heavily bottom ranked clubs are losing out to all of F-S, academy and FA compo. Richmond last year started with pick 2 and ended up selecting at pick 7 through no fault of their own. Going off the AFL points index, thats a devaluation equivalent to pick 16. If the AFL are going to keep the first picks unprotected, I don't think its a bad idea to compensate those who lose out but I'm not sure what the best way to do that is. Obviously this solution is far from perfect because it hurts everyone else, but at the same time the draft is meant to be an equalisation tool weighted in favour of the lowest ranked clubs and right now its the opposite.

Agreed - the current rules are terrible and need adjustment - but it's not hard to do that. All this does is create more ****ups and inequalities and rorting of systems, none of which the AFL will have considered.

We are going to have 40 picks in the first round alone with the new rules.
Nah the teams who finish outside the “Top 10” will have their selections designated as Round 0 picks so that we can keep the first round of the draft to a normal level.

Port supporters think Butters has got himself a SA girlfriend and that might keep him there.

Clutching perhaps.
Loved this when Tim English was out of contract, his then girlfriend (now wife) playing netball in Perth was going to be the deciding factor in where he played the prime years of his football career.

The Butters stuff is going overboard IMHO.

I wouldn't want to be a Port fan. This is bigger than B Smith or JUH . Must be gut wrenching for them.

The season has started, let's come back to this in 6 months.

We criticise Cornes and the media for stirring this shite & then we repeat it on the board.

(Not that i'm guilt-free, not at all)

Agreed. We're watching the most entertaining footy the dogs have played in a long time, leave the off-season stuff to off-season.

Yeah, it’s worse. He’s much closer to Bont to the Port supporters than Smith or JUH were to us. Would be rubbish.

The more i watch the 2026 Dogs, the more I become convinced that JUH's departure is a big win. Even if he has turned over a new leaf and is keeping himself nice, he isn't the sort of player who fits into the current side.

Every player from Bont, Darcy and Naughton to Baker, Bramble and Davidson chases and harasses like their lives depend on it. I don't think Jamarra, for all his amazing talent, will ever be a player who busts a gut to create defensive pressure.

If he was still on our list, however, there would be immense pressure to play a former No.1 pick, regardless of how he might ruin the team defence culture that we currently have.

It's absurd that we'd place ourselves on high moral ground when it comes to discussion around the potential of landing the biggest of big fish. When for as long as Ive been here (which is way too long!) people have bemoaned our inability to attract said fishes.

I speaks to the small minded nature of our supporter base and its unwillingness to rock to boat. Lest it offend or be seen do be dancing on the grave of others. It's particularly weird given how we have a very long history of having our list picked over by other clubs of our best players. Only to receive crumbs in return.

I for one am glad that the boot is on the other foot and aimed directly at somebody else's testicles for a change.

This is a zero sum game. And for once we might find ourselves with a winning hand.

I agree - but you know it'll just go on and on, no matter what we say. A lot of it is media-driven admittedly.

It's like the Kawns thing. Everybody agrees that he is best ignored and we shouldn't encourage him but they just go on watching and quoting him.

Get a grip people. It's only March FFS! He hasn't even nominated us yet (not officially anyway). A lot can change in 7 days, let alone 7 months. Go watch a game of WB footy.

Agreed, as long as we aren't be absolute campaigners about it I don't see the problem. Particularly when the most respected voices in the player movement space way ahead in the race for Zak Butters. Twomey used his plane analogy again yesterday and basically said the Dogs are 1A and then almost like he was forced had to say Geelong are 2A, when a few weeks ago they were 'neck and neck'.

You guys are too nice. We’ve had 3 consecutive seasons where we are on the shit side of this arguement. I say **** them al.

It’s a Butters fest and I won’t stop

We can do both those things…well not this weekend….but for the next 7 months…bring it on

I heard Butters baulked on Geelong because they declined to fill his farm tanks with diesel
