Why have our players been lapping up this BS for years? Culture never been stronger. Long term contracts, no one leaving.

Where's the mutiny? Anyone questioning things down there?

Absolutely

Then blame execution when things go wrong, so we fear errors

Which is ridiculous in a chaotic game where there are always going to be multiple errors even in wins.
They call Aussie Rules the 360 game for a reason - you cant control the olive ball and you cant control miskicks

What he actually mean by this part:

“Our players are very, very clear on… you don’t earn the right to move the ball from your back third”
At least our selections make sense now.

On here we looked at Butts, Bond, Murray, Max, Borlase... where are the intercepts? The rebound? The run and carry?

Laird vs Whitfield/Zorko types... can we afford a nuggety accumulator who kicks high balls down the line as our QB?

Why don't we get a Cook or Cumming or Dawson across half back and spoon feed them the ball?

Confusion reigns on here.

Now we know why.

Our game plan doesn't involve any rebound. We don't need a half back springboard. There's no place for run, carry or kicking skills. A static, stodgy, defensively sound combo is all we're after.

Get numbers back. Win the ball. Chip it around. Long to the wing. Force a stoppage. Reset.

Mission accomplished.

Public service culture.

No pressure to perform or accountability.

NWM from the back flank - '' dont use your weapons son until you earn that right ''

I think the bloke has gone insane.

Lose by 100 points? Since when we’ve attacked have we lost by 100 points?

He’s severely underrating our defence who have repeatedly shown they can hold up.

He’s just a defensive dumb coach.

Where’s Jeff?
Welcome to the board Velvet

Look forward to your posting, hopefully it is as balanced and correct as such posters like Elite Crow and Cantstandya

You have to wonder what the coaching group are thinking when the players throw caution to the wind and go on a scoring spree. I’d imagine they’d be ropeable and awaiting the next siren so they can reset each line.

Sounds like Nicks would be thinking "they haven't earned the RIGHT"

Probably already posted but just watched back his presser (can't find his one from the other day)
Very telling about the gameplan and the reversion back to stringent defence, at odds with the modern game

5:00 - when asked about ball movement
"We gotta earn the right to play fast"
"You don't earn the right to move the ball from the back third"
"If you want to open the scoreboard up and lose by 100 points"

He seriously doesn’t watch our games. Our forwards are rarely one on one because of the slow movement from the defensive 50. Last week we scored 5 goals in 17 minutes in the third quarter. For the remainder of the game of say 3.5 quarters, we scored 6 goals.

When we do move it fast we score quite easily and why? Because our forwards are just about some of the best in the AFL.

FMD, this guy is stupid.

Should be a sackable offence or final warning on reverting to a losing game plan.

It's a fear-based philosophy.

Waiting for things to be perfect before attacking.

Not confident that we'll be able to handle whatever the games throws up

See how things go, then we decide how we're going to play. Reactive. Prefer to sit back and watch, hesitant.
Need to be brave to play to win.

Unfortunately Nicks is chicken shit.

How bad does he think we are too if opening up a game means we'll lose by 100?
Particularly given our defence has been under the pump with significantly more inside 50m entries compared to our forwards... & they have held up well.

For first four rounds - we average less than 10 inside 50’s per game. We haven’t won an inside 50 count so far this year. Our defence is under immense pressure.

Now we know why we put Dawson in the middle, it was because we wanted him out of the backline.

We will beat Carlton and we will get that stupid condescending smirk at his presser as if he’s the smartest person in the room
Will he claim the genius decision to only go in with 1 main ruckman...

Yep the pressure is building on Nicks.

Thought only getting a one year extension was obvious, this isn’t early 2024 when he got his 2 year extension.
He's starting (this week) to make decisions that he'll be able to explain to the Board.

I expect we'll see Rankine have plenty of centre bounces too.
