Autopsy Round 5 = Collingwood 39-45 Fremantle

There’s no realistically viable alternative to Howe’s position, Sidebottom’s form warrants his inclusion and Elliott is our deepest forward and playing at capacity our clear best forward. Obviously his form is average but you give someone with his talent an extended opportunity before discarding him.

It’s the aging dispensable guys and roles that need to be moved on at first opportunity. McStay, Membrey, Crisp, Lipinski. Crisp’s form clearly warrants his inclusion in the first team though.
You play Cochrane in Howe's position. He won't be as effective initially, but with experience and exposure, he learns.

Sidebottom's form warrants his selection? Based on what? He's an average mid at best, at the moment and not going to improve.

Elliott, in case you haven't noticed has been POOR this year and he isn't going to improve given his age.

McStay and Membrey are finished. DeGoey IMV also.

Swoop and co can spin it any way they like, but we are currently in freefall as we've gone beyond the cliff's edge.

Proud of the boys. In terrible conditions, their pressure was brilliant - over 200 most of the game.

We lost to last years premiers and one of this years contenders.

In those conditions mistakes were made by both sides and umpires. It was a rough night for footy.

The worst for the night were a lot of posters here slagging of at our team and coaches. Pi55 off keyboard warriors. Imbeciles.

It’s easy to pick off players in a team that don’t play well. Geniuses. Most had a crack tonight.

I thought we have been a good board over the years but lately the negativity toward our team that has given us amazing success is disgusting

Most of you wouldn’t have ever played in conditions like that.

Game plan from Fly was exactly what the night needed.

We lost by a goal. We could have won by a goal. It was that kind of a game.

Now stop embarrassing yourselves and support the mighty pies. You blokes would never have survived in the John Cahill era.

Your cowardly comments are embarrassing. You have no idea.

We had a crack tonight and lost. Move on to next week.

So we should just close the Board Every GameDay so no one can post on here then

None of that makes any sense.

You wanted us to play the kids tonight and get done by 50 points this early in the season and that would have made you happy?
Atleast it would be a valuable learning experience.

I genuinely cannot understand how you are ok with the no of average players we are carrying who are showing no signs of growth.

We are tanking. Brilliant strategy from fly and the boys to get pick 4 and then piss it away on another club's leftovers
Considering Fly said himself he prefers players from other clubs over picks, this is most likely how it will go down.

Took a bit of time to digest that game of football for sure. Strangled them for 3 quarters but couldn't kick straight, two goals at the end were enough to get us.

We're not challenging for anything this year with our toothless tiger attack and the way the game is being played now doesn't favour our control-the-tempo mindset and style of gameplay, with the new rules making the game a lot more helter-skelter.

It's still early yes, but looks like it's time to start shifting one eye to the future and start laying some new foundations, as our deficiencies up forward and apparent inability to adapt to the even faster pace that the game is played at now aren't something it looks like we can remedy this year with this squad.

One thing I'm fairly certain of is that we probably wont see players of the ilk of Pendles and Sidey getting to 400 and 350 games ever again, even hitting the 300 mark might be a stretch from here so we need to savour the last hurrahs for both of them, even if results on field don't necessarily go the way we'd all like to see them go.

This board is truly insufferable after a loss.

Whilst the result was agonising it was through our own errors in the end. The effort was back and the execution missing.

If we’d kicked one of those shots early in the last we probably win and posters here would be happy. It goes a goal the other way and we are useless.

That just doesn’t make sense.
There’s actually no way around accepting we are a very average side this year. To deny this makes no sense.
Sadly, the sort of conditions we played in tonight is the only chance we have of beating the top teams like Freo this year. On a fine night, they’d have blown us away. How do you think we’ll fair against the Dogs, Swans, Hawks, Cats, Suns (and we’ve seen the Lions), if it’s fine weather?
But let’s not overlook the fact we should have won tonight. Our effort could not be questioned, we made it an ugly, dour grind and through sheer weight of inside 50’s, we would’ve won if we took our chances. Our problem was, we butchered our opportunities through missing set shots and teammates we were kicking to - because we are ordinary.

I want us to pick the best team to win a game of football.

We are picking kids. Anderson, Steene, Steele all playing tonight.

We are in a transitional stage and bottoming out as a basket case does not enthuse me. If you picked West, Swaddling, Prendible etc as well we’ll just get belted and it will be no good for any of them.

That was a horrendous game to watch.

I think Fly coached extremely well and turned the game into contest and pressure as that’s the only way you was going to get the win.

Pound for pound Freo have the better list and imo should be a top 4 side with no weaknesses across the ground.

For the pies to be in control for the majority of the night even though you didn’t get the win showed that fly came with a plan and Freo really struggled to get there game going.

Dan Houston really needs to lift his intensity when things aren’t on his terms he can be a really soft lazy footballer.

I still think you blokes have plenty of wins left in you this year and even though that game wasn’t pretty I think that style was the only way you was going to take the 4 points and you almost did.

At least he is kicking goals
Yes, and had he played for us tonight, we may have won.
But by mid year, his body will already be starting to let him down again. It’s the way he plays. He’s a battering ram. During the second half of last season, Checkers was a liability.

Wow, this is the internet in 2020's - no truth, just politics and spin.

Bring back the 00's and 10's when people weren't so precious and trying to control narratives at the expense of truth.

Carlton strength is their centre clearance work, they were ok the other night
This will be no easy game for us

Yes they looked better this week. But the gap between their best and worst is huge, and thats just from quarter to quarter.

His Defensive Work Tonight was Disgusting

Massive Lack of Effort of Trying to lay a Tackle

Freo broke his Tackles way too easily

Let’s go back to the 60’s when people were so genius that they could fake moon landings.

They were the good ol days.

I agree midfield and forward line the issue.

Just pondering whether we have been too defensive for a few years, which means we now try too absorb too many punches and not throw any.
Good call. The other factor which seems to have changed is that, unlike a few years ago, teams are now better prepared to defend when we do choose to hit the go button.

When McRae arrived at the club, he brought ideas from his time at Richmond that were relatively fresh and novel and gave us a competitive edge. Due to our success, teams have replicated those ideas so that they're more common across teams which has forced the competition to come up with strategies to neutralise or combat them.

A similar thing happened with Port, Melbourne and Carlton. They hung onto a contested gameplan for too long and were overtaken by the game itself.

Our Forward Line still would Suck with those 2
They both could kick quick crumb goals and have shown to be very accurate this year. Compare that to Schultz who gets the ball from a contest, and just try to run into defenders hoping for a free kick (and gets tackled) instead of putting his foot on the ball towards the goal. We have no one to kick those quick snap goals. Elliott is out of form and Hill is lingering on his preseason

Ginnivan seems to play more a wing role this year. I wouldn't mind having him available for midfield duties. We are really missing someone with natural football instincts capable of injecting some infectious energy. He'd be more valuable than Lipinski, while Beau is a good example of how speed really needs to be combined with football nouse.

Jaicos's kicking is severely over-rated by so many. He has a nice gait but he butchers more than his fair share.
You know whose kicking is overrated , Houston. Media will bang on about one brilliant kick, but forget the 3-4 he turns over under no pressure
