The list is really good. They do have some really good players out but they are at their best when they're in attack mode, they just don't utilise it properly. If they get someone like Longmire, they could climb really fast
Not unless he does a Ross Lyon and changes his mindset

A lot of things weren't right last year, Leppa and Bolts and Ned and Wright were not getting along and it filtered into the group. Add to that our horrendous injuries, thanks to the draw which crucified us, and losing Murph, that is why we got what we did.

All of that is fixed and with an extra month of preparation we are now primed and our game has never been in better shape. We are now 7-2 with 4 interstate trips, and 7 of last years top 8 teams.
To be fair, one of those finals teams was there under false pretences - we all know which one. ;)

Interesting re-watching Q4.

Freo's first two goals of Q4 should never have happened. Both the direct result on non-paid HTB decisions.

Unfortunately, things wont change until the statisticians start tracking frees not paid. Only then will we be able to fully assess umpiring efficacy and perhaps convince the rules committee and umpiring department to improve the rules and officiating of the rules.

🤔
Does the AFL seriously expect anybody to believe that no umpire knew Schultz was down? Just going by the video, one umpire runs straight past him when he's lying flat on the ground. Did the ump think he was having an in-game nap?
And what of the other three? Were none of them watching the game? You couldn't possibly miss that collision and the immediate effect on Schultz if you were.

That's my pet hate with the sub, every time there's a tactical one, there's always an injury afterward, it's a curse. I've seen it happen in many games this year

But I think that's the risk you take if you do the tactical sub off, it can go pear shaped, I rather they bin the sub entirely tbf
Maybe they could let the sub return if tactically used like last night, if a noticeable big injury like last nights and
not some bullshit doctors call like a certain Geelong coach (CHRIS SCOTT) would definitely use

there is 4 and you'd expect they couldn't BUT!!!!! they miss a hell of a lot of other stuff going on

Maybe they thought it was the pies refined strategy of in game resting

AFL seriously suggesting four umpires can’t see a player KO’d in a contest!

They make me sick.

Maybe on Monday, Pies can stick a German helmet on Shoota’s head, have him climb half way up a light tower and say the immortal words ( in his best freeman accent …) I see narrthing!

Send the video in to the four blind mice see if that jogs their memory!

Apparently the onfield umpires can't see a bloody player knocked out in the middle of the ground, yet they can see a ball being supposedly touched on the goal line from 30m away and overrule the goal umpire. 😐
Only 4 field umpires, maybe we need more  - joke of an administration, treating the game's stakeholders with contempt.

This AFL administration is flat out amateur and disingenuous. Shitting themselves they will be sued, and every action they take comes from that fear mindset.

Fly's presser

You must be thrilled with that win?
"We're really ecstatic with that win. That's a huge performance. To come over here off a five days (break) and a travel is hard to do. We didn't want to under understate or overstate it before the game, but we knew it was going to be a big challenge. We give a massive shout-out to Jarrod Wade and our high performance team to get everybody to perform like they did tonight was a real challenge and there's a lot of planning that goes into that. We're very lucky, we feel like we got the best team in the AFL right now to get the job done tonight".
Then you add in adversity with tactically subbing Sidebottom out and you lose Schultz, and you left a few guys back through management and injury. It's quite a lot to unpack throughout a few days?
"Yeah it is. Moments in time Steele [Sidebottom] is sort of somewhat fresh, low game time we're going well get some speed in and Oleg Markov's got electrifying speed and fitness and we get him in the game and it just seemed obvious and then within a minute you can't always get it right. Fingers crossed Lachie [Schultz] is ok. He's an important part of what we do. He had a great night tonight. Really pleased for him to 'come home' or not so much home but to come back here and perform so well against a team that he's played so long for".
Lachie Schultz was so brave all night. When he did come off, Darcy Moore said they should have stopped the game. Are you on the same page with that and can you talk us through those moments?
"We're all sort of just worried about his welfare and we called for the stretcher and the doctors were trying everything they can to just get Lachie ok and he sort of just jumped to his feet because it's just the way he goes, he gets knocked down and he gets up at every contest so we did what we could, but ideally you can stop the game".
What are you trying to say to the players at 3QT to get them going in the last quarter despite losing the key stats during the game and coming off a 5-day break?
"It was right back to where we started the night. Some of our contest and fight stuff that we take great pride in. Funnily enough, you don't tell the players some of the data. To win a game with 34 inside 50s is not sustainable, but it just shows how good our backs were and then how good the forwards were when we got the territory. We were scoring at such a high rate when we went inside 50 and then our backs just had incredible height; Darcy Moore, Howie. So, we had to win in a different way. At the 3QT huddle, it was like 'come on, we just got to fight to the last. This is what we do, we fight to the last seconds here'. Then you get the brilliance of Jamie Elliott to step up when we need big moments amongst other things".
When you left a lot of senior guys at home, to have Jamie Elliott step up the way would have been massive? How important is that for the club
"Yeah, it's super critical. He’s having a great year, Jamie. He’s now in the leadership group and just seeing a young man as happy as I’ve ever seen him. I remember when he first got drafted and I was lucky enough to be his development coach at the time and to see a man now that’s just really happy and then the happiness is expressing itself in his footy and he's just handling the big moments as he always has".
As a coach, you've never lost flying West as it's up to 10 games without defeat. What is it about this team that you travel really well and you comeback with at least half the points or all the points?
"I'm not sure if we've got a formula other than that we'd like to turn up wherever we go. We're very grateful for our Collingwood supporters who travelled over and there's lots of them. We had a thousand at training yesterday and a big loud army tonight. That's really important to us where we turn up for our fans and we appreciate when they turn up. I suppose consistency, again we want to play a certain model, tonight we didn’t get the game, credit to Freo, their clearance stuff is at their best, centre bounces they smashed us which then put us on the back foot and they’re hard to play when they get clearance and territory. I don't know if there's a formula, but we'd just like to be consistent for our fans".
Nick Daicos said post game that he came into this match a little bit sore and he had a different role playing up forward. Can you tell us how he's going with that soreness and how you saw his game tonight?
"I think most players come into the game five days after the last game with a bit of something going on and that's why again with a man down and low rotations, we just take this win with huge excitement and we want to celebrate it. This is a big win. We want to sit in it. Nick [Daicos] has this incredible ability to play multiple roles. When he's getting tagged, we go 'how about we see if they can go and play deep on him' and he gets two shots on goal and looked really dangerous for a period there where we needed it. We've got some flexibility in our team and we're really proud of that".
Just further to that, you obviously left some players at home plus Nick battling some soreness, to get the win tonight under that adversity, what does it mean in the context of your season?
"It’s huge, it’s absolutely huge, this is an incredible performance by our medical team and our players and we’re so proud of it. You put on the jumper for Collingwood, and it doesn’t matter who it is. Ed Allan comes in and just does a great job for us. Lachie Sullivan did great. Oleg Markov for moments, he only got a quarter and a bit. It doesn’t matter who puts the jumper on, we want them to play a certain way. We’re going home with the four points and a lot of confidence that this is a big win for us and we'll sit in it for a bit".
Circling back to the Schultz incident, it seemed obvious to everyone that it was a big incident and he needed to be taken care of. How did it feel as a coach to watch that unfold as play was still happening?
"Look, my love and care for Lachie is paramount. His wellbeing is paramount and we want to protect our players. You don’t like to see your players laying on the ground and you wish you could take that away. The game unfortunately at times bring that into our game. I just hope he's ok. I haven't had a chance to speak to him and I'm looking forward to getting out of here to make sure he's ok".
How hard is it to get the message through to players to wait for the stretcher and medical help rather than to try and get up and battle through it as Schultz did?
"I have played the game a long time ago and had a few concussions and you’re not conscious. Your subconscious and Lachie wants to get up, knocked down and get up again. It’s what my dad used to say to me all the time, 'you get knocked down you get up'. Maybe that’s in his psyche and shows his courage. In the ideal world, it's exactly what you're saying. We have the ultimate care for our players. This is a part of our game we’d love to not have. Lots of players in the past have had to live this and we’re making changes to make our players safer and the environment safer for our players".
It's been a big couple of weeks for Jack Crisp, did he take that missed shot after the siren personally?
"He had a great game didn't he? He was so important. I could just see looking across the group and you probably knew some would be down on their capability or capacity to cover the ground and I saw within the first quarter and I said to Wadey 'mate, Crispy's on, he's running, let's get him around the ball'. Funnily enough, he [Crisp] said after the game he feels really fresh. He's an incredible athlete. We rallied around Jack and we moved quickly and celebrated all the things that was last week. Pretty handy player tonight wasn't he? He was fantastic for us".

Just to add to the pile on - seems pretty clear that both Freo & Pies players are trying to get the attention of the umps

Looked to me like some Fremantle flog decided to exploit the +1 when Coxy and Chapman almost came to a stop.

Lucky the uncontested possession was a clanger and he turned the ball over in the middle of the centre square to the most dangerous player in the AFL.

You guys are being way too harsh on AFL.
A player clearly needs to be concussed 3 times for them to even admit not stopping the game was a slight blunder.
Now that I've typed this Willie Rioli being in the news last week came to mind for some reason...

We all love Fly blah blah blah but his comment about Allan and Markov coming in and doing some sort of a great job can't be taken seriously.

He played on the opposite wing to Lipinski with stints in the middle buddy. I suggest you get your facts straight if you're going to argue against something I type.

Please tell me where he fits into Howe, Framton, Perryman, Quaynor, Moore, Houston and J Daicos (1 obviously being on the bench)?

Played as a defensive wing and you're getting stuck into him about not winning clearances?

Ed Allen was dissapointing. Dropped an opportunity to show what he has and needed to show something.... was a major reason why we got smacked in the middle.
A lot of trust placed in him by MaCrae, and didn't take his opportunity.
suggest you get your facts straight if you're going to argue against something I type
I suggest you spell names properly if you're going to tell others to get their facts straight
