So how do we feel after he wall paper over cracks result.

We beat a team who almost lost to Richmond by 28 points and they kicked nearly 90 points on us. Im sorry to the apologists if im not screaming we are premiership favourites but this result really is not that good.
Won't know how we are tracking for the premiership this year until 3 of our best 10 return in Curtin, Keane and Ah Chee. Right now, it's holding until they return and banking wins. The list has improved with McAndrews as our lead ruck instead of RoB (unknown how he will runout the entire season), Rachele back in the midfield, Milera's form (a lot better than what Hinge was offering last year) and recruitment of Ah Chee.

Our top 3 players in Thilthorpe, Dawson and Rankine have started slow and played only ok so still a lot of upside there. Soligo is a worry whether he can get back to fully fit for season (we need him in the midfield not forward) and Walker slowing down mean heavy reliance on Fogarty who hasn't started well and now has a back injury but we do have Ah Chee.

True, absolutely. Port lost a few games badly a few years ago then went onto the win 14 straight and made the prelim. So definitely things can change.

Im also aware in one of our premiership years at one stage early in the season we had an absurd injury list and as we got players back we gained momentum going into the finals. So you are right.

I dont rate our problems on player performance though. Its our coach. Winning in the season is far different to winning in finals. It was Craigs biggest knock, had a great game plan to win in season games but fell apart in finals. Funnily enough I believe we actually do play a finals winning game plan but Nicks has it ass backwards and plays the slow motion chip and catch perfect ball movement game plan against the best teams instead of using our real weapon. He brings out our actual decent game plan against weaker opposition.

In 1997 we were 1 and 3. Had a 5 game winning streak from rounds 7-12. Starting with Essendon with the two Matthews returning from injury Robran and Liptak.

Was that the whiteboard message year?

Blight put up a message on the whiteboard to the effect 18 games to go

My recall was we had an F1 midfield and a Murray Bridge Speedway forward line - specially 2005/06

Craigs idea was to get the ball in quick - then chip it as close to goal as possible. I think he had the idea it would eliminate misses which could be be rushed back down the ground

ie I think most clubs waited for our mistakes then pounced. Would love to see our turnovers scored against stat for those years

Do you reckon if we asked nicely they’ll return again?

There was a noticeable change in our game plan on Thursday.
A lot quicker ball movement, playing on after a mark, a couple of handballs to move it on.

That's one positive and an acknowledgement that his original plan wasn't working
Good to see him make the adjustments
But he has a mid week presser which he defends what he’s been doing and then changes it thinking no one would notice.

Never takes accountability

He cant have that smug smirk and say his game plan was sht at the same time

He thinks he is the only person who understands the game.
It was like that comment about people should watch sanfl games and then they would understand why we don't promote anyone

sorry...??????

He made this exact adjustment multiple times last year, the year before that, the year before that and the year before that.

Every time an opposition gets close to us score wise he gets scared, 86 points was too high of a score. Hands down Nicks will be pissed right now that Carlton got that many points and he will be pointing fingers everywhere at the defense and the Midfield. Probably even has ideas on scape goating some players at selection.

Next week against the saints he will either revert back to slow methodical football because he will be scared of NWM or he will try and take them on. Im backing the first option. I dont see Nicks having the sack since he is a coward coach to open the game up to play to our strengths.

Hands down at the Gabba we will be back to slow methodical football.

Make no mistake, he only made the change to try and flog Carlton.

Im certain we had 15 players on the injury list at one stage. It was staggeringly high. But we had a coach that created game plans that played to our strengths. This is far different to what we have now.

Just as likely it's only deployed when we don't think we can lose. Just happened to flick the fast switch when playing a bottom 6 side, I don't think so.

We've had wins against 16th & 11th
Lost to 1st, 2nd & 12th

Saints, Brisbane, Port, Richmond & North.
14th, 5th, 9th, 18th & 7th our next five games

We could be 6-4 after some easy games

Geelong, 11th place, also have played us, Gold Coast, Fremantle and Hawthorn - a reasonably tough draw like ours.

Also around that same time we had Shaun Rehn, David Pittmann and Darren Jarman all return in the same game

Wasted 5 weeks and probably cooked our season to catch on though.
