Rumour Bluemour Discussion XLI

When he told me, I watched the game on Saturday night with more interest. If you look at the style of play in the two halves, it is night and day. We attacked the contest and ran off our players in the first half, and then went to a zone/chipping style in the second half. It is pretty obvious that it doesn't work.

TA
Spot on. Very noticeable how we go defensive and stop attacking. Full length defence.
The opposition know we are mentally on the back foot and just go all out 'Trump' mode.

So he intentionally slows the game down in second halves.

Question then is why? is this to counter fatigue that his game style has banked in the first half or even more bizarrely is he trying to defend a lead (struggling to think it's the second option given the nature of the man).
I’ve actually noticed the commenters mention this the last few games about how they’ve stopped taking the game on in the second halves and started to play a more slow game chipping the ball around

Interesting that GW had Collingwood well down the ladder for Naicos the year before they won the premiership.

We look eerily similar to a 2020-21 Collingwood .

Big difference was Pies had already traded out their 1st (which ended up #2) the year before, and especially under the old system, had no reason to tank.

If the Pies knew they were going to finish so low they could have have had Finn C and Daicos. In the end they didnt get Daicos for much discount at all.

Yes I have heard that as well now I think about it.

Is he doing it to protect King Cripps and Prince Cez (and others)? He does bang on about whole team defense and needing to defend for as long as it takes because the obvious response from the oppo is oh he's slowed the game down so lets speed it up.

Is this all about ensuring the players he steadfastly keeps picking but knows they are slow can play a whole game?

I mean a simple change would be Ben Campo in for Cripps. Sure they are both inside mids and both not quick but I guarantee you a 19 year old B Campo would run out a game better than a bashed up 31 year old 6 foot 5 90 plus kilo war horse.

Not singling out you specifically because there are plenty of people posting on a similar theme… but I find it difficult to comprehend that people think Wright could have fixed the joint in a preseason. Will take a while for his decisions to show results. And will take a while for him to change al the things he needs to. Unpalatable for some, but patience is required I think.
Not saying anyone could have turned the club around in one season and the only theme I have is wanting Carlton to be better.

I expect Wright, Davis and the board to have a long term view on the future of the football department, making appointments around that and nailing those appointments.

Wright should have had a medium to long term view about Voss, he had all the information already if Voss was the man. Wright and the board, decided yes he was and we should invest in him and bring in new assistants.

Now we have an underwhelming group of assistant coaches on multi year deals, that any new coach has no choice but to except.

So any new coach is on the back foot before they even start, not having their own team, then adding on-top supporter and media expectations.

If I was a top coach or highly rated assistant, I’m not sure I’d choose Carlton and I love the club

We missed goals at the start of the 3rd, another example of not taking our chances. Then capitulated with an onslaught where no one wanted to stand up (and Dean’s 2-goal giveaway).

I have seen little evidence of this elite kicking from Boyd. Just a VFL player IMO.
Boyd’s kicking (and maybe a bit of speed) dropped off after foot surgery two years ago.

He’s better than last year and frankly I think having a coach who doesn’t appear to rate your abilities would put further pressure on disposal. Also having a game plan where no campaigner blocks or runs to make an option means every kick is under pressure and to a contest.

I still rate him.

Probably not a groundbreaking bit of info as the club would no doubt be canvassing a few candidates, but hearing Jaymie Graham at Freo is a good chance for Head Coach position post Voss (or is at very least highly rated by the club, as he is across industry).

No clue on whether this is legit or if so, if there’s a timeframe, so don’t shoot the messenger. A rumour is a rumour, after all.

Hi all,

I had a chat with an ex-player (think late 90's defender) who is close with Sammy Hamill on Friday.

Essentially, he told me that Voss goes into each match with a Carlton system and then the 'plan' is to react to the oppositions system after half time. Assistant coaches have brought up the failure of this since mid 2025 but Voss continues to coach in a reactive style. The assistants didn't agree with his methodology in 2025 and supposedly still don't now.

No wonder we play into the oppositions hands.

This is consistent with my observation of us having no to very little opposition analysis.

Coached a game at WCE when Simpson stood down for a week, switched to Freo and stood up as their HC when Longmuir took a week off for personal reasons.

Has run Freo's fwd line for the last 4 years I think

A rumour is a rumour until it is posted here. Then it becomes fact and you will certainly be shot if it turns out to be unfounded. Surely you know this by now? 😉

… and he’s west of Carlton. Diabolical!!

He retired early from memory, to take care of some half siblings that he had no idea existed post his mother’s death.

Seems like an honourable guy… but the bar has been set very low thanks to our dick pic sending pres.

Had an awful knee injury playing for South Fremantle in the WAFL around 2011. One of the most graphic I’ve ever seen. Think that ended his career

If Voss is replaced by Jaymie Graham (whoever the **** he is), that would just about see me out I reckon.

Takes a special kind of person… what’s the saying… insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Surely “the consultant” Simpson could comprehend this and give Voss feedback? Instead of being as clueless as the rest of the coaching group.

Yeah, just like throwing dice and expecting it won't always be sixes... Such a silly and unscientific aphorism.
