Heaps of young forwards spend some time in defence. It's not going to screw up his development. He's already a good kick and a terrific contested mark. He needs to build his physical base, just like any other young player. But as a forward, he also needs to learn running patterns. A lot of developing forwards learn some of this by playing on other forwards.
