Not if they match then we’ll trade. They can match knowing he’s leaving and take 2 first and a player I’m sure
They can match our stupid offer for all I care. The only good Zac Bailey is a free Zac Bailey.

They won't be matching.

The Agenda Setters floating the idea of trading Curtin for Bailey if they match. How does Mitch Cleary have a job?
Do they know we don’t have a Bailey and probably don’t need Cody?

Bailey will want them to match. He has been vocal about wanting to stay. If they match the offer, he will sign it and stay a Lions player.

I wonder if vic media know they do this or its subconscious. But there is always an inherent expectation that the Crows have to give away one of their best players or a top draft pick to compensate any club in a trade even if its for a 28yo list clogger from a Melbourne based club the demand is the same. Meanwhile if its in reverse the Crows are expected to take what the shittest offer is as fair value.

Jesus theres some bad calls in the media.

How many times does it need to be said. Bailey’s preference is Brisbane but if he moved it would be for more money.

So if Brisbane matched our offer, then Bailey would just sign the higher contract with Brisbane. He’d get is $1.2m and continue to win premierships.

There won’t be any trading. It’s not like Butters whose preference is to get to another state.

I remember when Mitch Cleary used to work for AFL and not be on TV, used to be a much better journo.

Unfortunately they all end up going down the same path. Clicks from TV sensationalism talks.

So they miss our because of who their Dad is ??

That doesnt pass the pub test.

They don’t miss out on anything. There are the regular pathways for players to go through.

I don’t why anyone not invested in the outcome would justify this.

Imagine if we lost access to Godwin’s son because he went to school in Melbourne

This is the justification for all of the academies

It's not actually part of the academy selection criteria though. This is probably all the Hodge family and club care about when assessing his application to join the academy.

Does he meet the criteria? Yes.

Also, part of the stated motivations for the Northern academies is to retain local talent. If the young Hodge is a Qld local and this retains him, then tick again.

The idea Brisbane will match an offer they wouldn’t give Bailey to keep him in the first place, is one of the more bizarre threats I’ve seen from a club.

He wants to stay, he’s told you that, pay him and keep him if you want him.
They can't. Hence the hissy fit leaks to the media.

That’s the part of the problem. He’s only a local because of his dads football career

What us the criteria?

Is the support for Brisbane getting first access to Luke Hodge’s son due to the fact that’s it’s more palatable to see him go there than potentially making the Hawks stronger ??
It makes no sense - I hate the Hawks as much as the next guy, but the reigning back-to-back premiers who have already prompted questions about the northern academy concessions (not to mention some pretty handy father sons of their own), should not now be entitled to another clubs high pedigree father son also, simply because Queensland is a nice retirement location.

In Qld, my understanding is it's mainly made up of, you just need to fit the age bracket, live within designated zones and have a certain level of performance, to be selected.

They don't have the same restrictions like we have in SA with the non traditional football background stuff. I think this is where there is some confusion, there are the Northern Academies and the Next Generation Academies (NGA).

People are saying, 'Hodge isn't from a non football background' and they are thinking of the NGA criteria, not the Northern Academies criteria.

There's others here better qualified to answer all this though, the draft nuffs.

Lol brisbane "could match and force a trade".

No they couldn't, because they can't match. That's the whole point. The matching and trading part is to help sort compensation for a team that CAN afford to pay a player but loses them. If a team can't afford a player, they can get whatever draft compo the AFL throws their way.

If they matched, Bailey would just stay at the Lions because he's said he loves it there. (And they'd have a salary cap problem).

Either way the player gets paid an amount they want, to play where they want (i.e. has free agency).

We’re not talking about the same thing. Everyone agrees he CAN go in the Brisbane academy under the current rules. Most of the posts in here are about that fact showing that the current rules are a joke, delivering ridiculous further windfall gains to the northern clubs.

His wife is from Perth, and she took the kids back there at the start of the year. It will be easier for him to be around his kids in Perth.

Moving back to Perth might be his last chance to save his marriage.
If his soon to be ex wife has simply up and took the kids back to WA then, unless he is some sort of domestic violence threat to her and the children, she could very well end up losing custody.

Its not like it used to be.. the courts no longer simply take the morhers side. The courts recognise the importance of both the mother and father and 50/50 is now the starting point for any coparenting arrangement unless there is extremely good reason for that not to be the case.. and DV threat is about the only extremely good reason.

A mother that makes it difficult, by denying the father access or taking children interstate etc, can be viewed very poorly by the family courts in QLD and can potentially lose all custody.

Given this marriage breakdown is only recent.. the divorce wouldnt have been processed yet and there wouldve been nothing in the way of official parenting mediation or family court appearences..

For her to have up and taken the kids back to WA she’s either come to an agreement with him or she’s an idiot.

The children come first.. having them comstantly dragged back and forth from one side of the country to the other interrupts their entire life.. and the courts will not take a very good view of this occurring.
