If we play somewhere close to our best, and actually kick straight, we can unquestionably win this.

But as I said in the other thread, I won't be topping myself if we drop this one.

What I will be doing if we do, is avoiding all the 'dA wOrLD iS cAvInG iN!' nonsense on this board....

Freo’s tyres have well and truly been pumped all week, it’s nice to go in underdogs.

No injuries and 4pts please Hawks.

Just avoid a belting if we lose, that gives a psychological edge to them if we play them later in the year. Fight the game out at all costs if in a losing position. We did that against GWS and came away at least with a few positives. Not confident tonight TBH, will need to play 4 quarters at a high level to get the chocolates and we haven't probably done that all year. Burst footy it's been but against the best it has to be elite.

Are we wearing that jumper tonight and I just missed it being reported on?
Been in all the club's media posts in the lead up to the game (as early as Monday), so yes, you can safely assume we're wearing it.

From the preview thread - ahhhhhh
Why is Whately going on about Ramsden being a ruckman not forward with such authority. He played a large majority of last year at Box Hill as primarily a forward.

===

Max is a player I don't really get. He really is a "poor-man's" version of English/Luke Jackson - a tall who runs around and happens to contest the ruck. English and Jackson were both horribly over-rated on actual performance for most of their careers based on what they could be - his "Potential".

Max is a "good ruck for a KPF", and also a "good KPF for a Ruck" - but mediocre at best at either. His biggest asset appears to be his endurance - which means he really needs to #1 to make it work. Similar to Maginness being stuck in a forward pocket or outside mid role - his biggest strength is taken away and what's left isn't really enough.

IMO Ramsden is a long way short of the standard for a #1 ruck - pinch hit /injury cover at best. As a forward, he offers little defensively, isn't a strong mark against a genuine KPD - I feel like most of his goals come either as a Ruck drifting forward marking over a mismatch (or being tallest in the pack - which really only works 1-2 times a game).

A bit perplexed by the Ramsden selection, I really don't see his upside as a forward at all.

I would have preferred to go in with another medium/small forward especially considering how successful the Dogs were against Freo with that setup last week, along with how one dimensional we looked bombing it in against the Pies.

The corresponding fixture last year was one of our worse losses for a while, hopefully that's etched in our memory and we come out firing.

Strange decision. Not our best clash strip.

Regular guernsey with white shorts would have been fine.

Am working so not going to watch and more importantly will be avoiding being part of the sky is falling group (this is very much a me issue)

I've been very impressed with our will to win this year. Against Geelong we could have curled our toes up in those final frantic minutes and settled for the draw, but we didn't, we busted our arses to get the win. Same with scrapping out the draw against the Pies.

Gotta make as much money on merch as possible

Nervous about the game, I think this is the weakest on paper 23 we have named this year (still a very strong team).

Freo in Freo is close to as tough as it gets at the moment, hoping for a quality game.

I think the Ramsden selection is pretty simple guys. We're missing Mabs and Dear, two forwards who get to contests in the forward 50 and either clunk the mark or get it to ground. That is a critical structural part of our forward line, making it to contests for Watson, Ginni, Moore, and Croc to crumb off. McCabe isn't that sort of player, neither is Schubert. Ramsden is both a good contested mark and an agile enough big that he can get to contests and make threats. He's big and has been in the system playing this role for a while now. We run Gunner deep to set up his leads, Mitch to present up the ground and work back into the forward line as a true CHF, and a third tall to play in between to make sure the contests that go down the line don't get intercepted. Make perfect sense to go with Ramsden for that purpose in my eyes.
