We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves (and just to bring us back to earth, we have to play the AFL next week, sorry, Brisbane AFL, sorry, Brisbane Lions), but there will be some interesting selection choices to make over the next couple of weeks - Blicavs, Henry, Miers, Edwards will all likely be available. And no reported injuries from this game, although clearly something is not right with Tom Atkins atm.

Blicavs sounds like another 2 weeks or so. Give him time, we will need him
Miers- Chris Scott spoke like he would play more VFL until they are sure he is right.

I thought Stanley was excellent, more so his work around the ground rather than his ruckwork. In today's afl, he is on the short side for a ruck, and I think Edwards is already the better centre square ruck, with his extra height and leap. Most teams are now playing 2 rucks with the extended bench, why don't we use Edwards for 10 minutes or so each quarter, taking as many centre bounces as possible, and not over-tax Stanley? This has a flow on effect because it allows us to use SDK full time back, to take some of the pressure off young COS, and let him play a bit further up ground, which suits him better I think. Henry can take some more time to rest his foot.

Do we rest Danger this week? Conventional wisdom says yes, but he is just building nicely, and I'm sure he is still smarting from last year (elite athletes never like being beaten), let him have another go at Brisafl.

Who do we Mullify? How about no-one, they have a number of candidates although there is not just one needing attention, why don't we finally let him off the leash? Hey Ois, see the funny red oval thing, go get! If you can give Andrews a bit of a bump while you are about it, all the better...

Tom Atkins? He may need Chris Scott conditioning. I can't think of anyone in the team that would be more suitable to rest to give George Stevens at least one more go (they are both in and under and tackling types, Atkins is faster, Stevens has better disposal) If it doesn't work, well at least we will know but it is likely that Stevens would at least double Atkins recent possession totals.

So, Edwards and Stevens in, Atkins and ? managed.

The centre square clearance at the start of the 3rd qtr when Mullin waltzed out with the ball untouched and had a bounce which led directly to a goal - was largely possible because Naicos gave up defensively as soon Mullin looked like winning the ball.

If that was a Geelong player this board would have lost it’s shit.

He carries a massive load so I will cut him some slack, but his defensive work rate was noticeably terrible. Now that Mullin is getting confident enough to take advantage of it we saw the results.

I commented on it at the time, but it was later in the 3rd quarter when Mullin went on a little run to clear the ball from the defensive 50 - Naicos was essentially flat footed and simply couldn't go with Mullin, and it was Elliott or De Goey who tried chasing after him instead

And then not long after in a similar area just outside Collingwood's forward 50, and this time it was Merrick who easily moved Naicos off the ball. I'm not sure if Naicos was hoping he'd get a free kick out of pity, but there was no resistance once he felt body contact

The other player we should give some credit to for their efforts in regards to Naicos last night was Worpel - I noticed at a couple of stoppages in Collingwood's forward 50, that when there was separation between Mullin & Naicos or if Mullin went to cover a defensive position, that Worpel stepped straight in to put a body on Naicos

Tough call. I wouldn't be surprised to see him rested at some point. I suspect something like injury, or behind the scenes is affecting his game. Maybe slight role change due to Worpel’s inclusion?
Pointy end, game on the line We still need him..
There were times last night that Atkins spent time starting in the defensive 50 and playing behind the ball

It's a role we've seen from him before, and maybe something we'll see from him a bit more often across the season if we're going to be using Mullin & Worpel in at centre bounces

How good is our little goal sneak Shaunie Mannagh?
Kudos to the patient grasshoppers, who don't panic at a blip game or two.
Now to extend that to Atkins, if you please.
Your Boy Mannagh 😻

What's the point of being angry. It is what it is.
Sometimes the loss brings out areas that need improvement, reminders that we're not unbeatable, tightening up of basics, tweaks to the game plan to counter what was missed, counter measures, copying of some of the opponents' tactics where they fit our game. It's all learning.
Other times it's just a product of a heavy training cycle.
It's all about being ready for the finals in the best shape possible, and then ultimately ready to tear the place apart in the GF. But there's 18 teams and only one winner at the end.
Great post. I've actually been really annoyed we let the Hawks one slip given the position we were in to win it.

But great perspective.

You had me until Stevens.
It's us (some more than others) that are axing Axe.
Just like Mannagh was pilloried. All in good time.

Pies board are CERTAIN Naicos is injured and not just a one way runner 😇

Interesting some posters saying Stanley is slow, or has got slower.

I’ll guarantee even at his age, that he’s quicker than Edwards. Straight line race over 20-30 metres he’d out sprint Blicavs as well.

All of them would be left in the dust by Mullin. Comfortably the fastest on our list over that sprint testing distance. I know I’ve been banging on about him for a while, but I think a few people are starting to realise what a huge recruit he was. The bloke is a weapon and is very close to being in our best midfield rotation as a pure attacking mid. Elite running - elite kicking - tough as nails.

Worpel haters have gone quiet the last few weeks as well.

One thing I've noticed with Rhys this season is that he's always smiling and seems to be enjoying himself - be it in the VFL or AFL

🤔

“Respectfully, he’s got a guy just hanging off him,” McRae staunchly said when asked for the reason behind the drop-off.

“He had 29 disposals tonight … I would have thought that’s the most that Mullin has given up - he did a good job, young Mullin, he’s doing a great job for their team.

“(Daicos) is such an elite player - we want the ball in his hands as much as we can, (but) everything’s pressured. I haven’t seen every one of his ineffective kicks.

“We also have a game (style) where we want to take territory. We won a flag in ‘23 (when) we were the worst kicking efficiency in the competition … kicking efficiency is not a number that we care too often about.”

They're having a cry on their board because Naicos was boo'd.

Delulu.
When was Naicos boo'd - can't say I heard it and it definitely wasn't as loud as when they opted to boo Henry in the first quarter

Jack Martin has been so good for us this year, he is skinny strong on a new level. So strong on his feet and in the air.
Such a challenging match up for the opposition as well.

I heard it a couple of times, can't pinpoint exactly when.

Not anywhere as loud as Ollie's booing though, and that went all night.

Hanging off him? That would imply he's grabbing and scragging him off the ball. Not accurate. He actually tended to run off Daicos a bit, and then backed his own speed to close distance fast if Naicos got the footy, which conceded the odd possession but turned it into a rushed turnover more often than not.

And I don't see Mullin taking kickins to pad his own stats either.

As Jumping Jack posted Mullin is a weapon , got that leg speed , is strong and is a decent kick

Rhys Stanley did what he has done quite alot for Geelong over the years - played well

Easily the Cats best victory of the season , a super impressive win

I think Kolo coming back in , and he has regained touch pretty quickly , has improved the side

It will be interesting when everyone is available , who will go out , in the best picked team
