Shout out to scratcher - fantastic game.
I've long been an advocate of him playing further up the ground where he can fully utilise his athleticism.
Pack marking isn't his one wood , especially if he can't get a run at it - so he gets hampered when he's close to goal.
I suspect if Jezza wasn't playing Shannon would be at CHF.
He looked great further up the ground - marking target , superb field kicking and surprisingly quick and agile as evidenced in the handball chain when he ran and linked 2 handballs.
Add all that to his set shot capability and we have a very potent weapon.

Good player, but his weaknesses are that the doesn't chase (not that Mullin's catchable LOL) and disposal turns to crap under pressure. I reckon if you could have Mullin face off against GAJ in his prime, Mullin would trouble him for pace but GAJ wouldn't turn into Shanky McUpandunder from the close attention.
I am going to add Shanky McUpandunder to my vocab going forward

Thanks

I can’t wait for the coaches votes to come out.
You just know McFly will give a vote to a pies player that will have us scratching our heads.
I can live with JDG getting a few but anyone else would be borderline laughable .
He said Post match Quanor did a great job on Dempsey, wonder how he rated Nick Daicos and Longs job on Stewart.

Quaynor got OBLITERATED by Dempsey in Q3 when we put them to the sword. :straining:

McRae actually looked like a broken man during his presser post game. There was a fleeting second where I started to feel sorry for him and then sanity prevailed and I snapped myself out of such sick and demented thoughts quite quickly. I reckon he wasn't far off getting a quiver on the bottom lip.

I think he senses that the cliff is approaching at a rapid rate and they are falling quickly behind the best 5-6 teams. They've not made tough calls - early enough - on some of their senior players, and the next batch coming through look average at best. Add into the mix, a potential exodus of top line talent once Tasmania start waving big dollars around, and this has all the makings of a Dimma Hardwick and Richmond type scenario.

Sweet Jesus - we can only hope.

Just wanna say did anyone notice in third quarter that the clock stopped at 3:36 for about 40 seconds then it restarted then the time got to 3:33 and it went back up about 20-30 seconds?! Strange!

Collingwood are no threat, never have been for us. One prelim win when GAJ and Bomber were up in arms, big whoop.

Who cares whether they stay up or not, it's a guaranteed win for us if we meet them.

I try to be a fair poster , thus i cant agree with what you have posted - that is just arrogance personified , that is arrogance through the roof , yes you might get a few cheap likes from some one eyed types

Without looking up the record book - i would think from 2007 onwards . outside of GWS - Coll would have the next best win/loss against Geel

And of course in 2008 we only lost 1 home and away game . and that was to them by about 13 goals . Plus the 2010 PF we were wiped off the floor 83 pts behind in 3rd qtr and of course they have a 100pt victory against us in 2006

Yes the 2011 flag we won that fair and square - beat them 3 times i think their only 3 losses for the season . However i think what didnt help Coll ( and this is no knock on Nathan Buckley ) was the stupidity of the coaching handover . Iam certain if Coll had a president at the time like Tuddenham - you know they won the flag in 2010 - round 17 or so in 2011 they are sitting nicely on top of the ladder - Tuddy would have come out and said look - there is no handover of coach we have knocked that on the head . we are hellbent on going back to back , we dont want any distractions whatsoever in our quest to win the flag - instead with McGuire you get 180 degrees opposite it became a weekly saga and a distraction

And finally the 2007 PF that is the worse game ive sat through as a Geelong supporter re pressure . and who puts us through that hell - Coll

So i think your comments about Collingwood are way off the mark

So we got Bailey Smith for picks 17 and 38.

Is this not the greatest heist of the modern era?

Its very hard to win the ball when you have eyes mainly on the player. Our most dangerous opponent on the day.

Getting disposals is a secondary role for Mullin.

His role is slowly evolving. And as others have said he will see more of the game as a mover rather than stopper before much longer.

As an aside, I would like to see Clark take on his role as tagger if Scott releases Mullin later this year against the lesser sides.

Just thinking out loud.

Just more on Mullin's development.

Before he was just deployed as a tagger, and a very good one at that. The growth this year and this Naicos job in particular showed that he can also become a "defensive midfielder", not just putting the clamps on opposition star players but also get ball and be a significant part of transition around the field.

No shame in being a pure tagger, but for him to add this to his bow is huge for his development and confidence.

There will be times he gets it wrong and will get horribly burnt leaving his man to chase ball, especially by shrewder and more harder-working opposition, but we'll accept that as a learning curve as he raises his ceiling.

Knowing Chris Scott, Mullin would probably be given some "horses for courses"-type instruction. Sometimes he only needs to clamp on someone. Sometimes he'll be "clamp first, get ball second".

In any case, the last game showed us how promising he is at the latter. Just another weapon to have in the holster.

I maintain it was close to fair value at the time. Smith was coming off an ACL, off-field issues and his last season for the Dogs pre-injury was average. They had no want or need for him in the midfield.

Not even the most optimistic of us could have predicted he'd immediately hit career best form and likely be heading for back to back AAs and top 3 Brownlow finishes.

My comment was in jest, I just don't see them as a current threat or a rival as some pointed out prior to the game.

I think people's worries when we play them are more due to them being the universally hated club rather than where they're at.

I fully expect we will play him as a pure mid at some stage to see what he can do.
Play as a mid and just defend as required , not tag exclusively.
I would love to see him use his assets to hunt the footy , we are developing him beautifully and this is where I see his final role once he's the finished product.
His handballing has always been solid but I can't believe how much his kicking has improved off both feet. He is launching darts and making great decisions as evidenced by his DE by foot , love his work :)

It’s better than that. We also got back pick 45. On draft night 38 became 40 and 45 became 44. So he cost pick 17 (pick 20 on draft night) and a 4 place slide in the 40s. Bargain!

Yes he is good at this and can provide the long get out option when we are under a bit of pressure.

Keen to see how we use him this Thursday night. Andrews has the better of him and I think we need to come up with a way to keep Andrews away from long bombs forward. THat could mean not bombing it long forward, or trying to get Andrews up the ground to follow Neale, or even Neale sacrificing his game a bit to try and drag ANdrews away from the danger areas.

That brazen running bounce would have felt like a collective clap across the Pies' faces.

Here's a bloke who's only learnt the game less than 5 years ago taking a bounce in front of seasoned professional players, some with generational experience. THEN he keeps his head, takes the right option, and it results in a goal.
How many other players would just blaze an i50 under the same circumstance?

Masterfully developed. I share your excitement.

We've got the option of playing him in the ruck too.
