In February the Participation in Sport and Physical Recreation Australia report concluded that;
"More than 650,000 people played indoor and outdoor soccer in 2013-14, while Aussie rules lured only 224,000 participants".
For all sorts of reasons families are choosing soccer over our native...
I feel ambivalent about Malthouse's big night. He's currently the coach of Carlton; the man who refused to honour his contract and left us in the lurch But he's a Collingwood premiership coach and maybe that excuses almost everything.
Where do you stand on this? I'm trying to source my inner...
Travis is 28 now, which should be prime-time for a forward colossus. But he's been ineffective of late, for a range of reasons according to the media and the footy forums. These include injuries, poor ball-drop/kicking action/leading patterns, lack of front-line support, woeful delivery, flaky...
Beams had a terrific year and was shaping up as one of our hardest and most courageous players. But he was poor in both Grand Finals, by his standards, with 12 and 11 disposals respectively.
Was it a case of a young player tiring as the season came to an end? Or was it bigstageitis - which...
I don't feel we have. I suspect we've all been suffering from Premiership fatigue, caused by the tension of the double-dipped Grand Final. At the end of it all, after all that barracking and chanting - giving tongue, and ultimately being to our greatness - we were short on stamina.
HOMP...
Can't believe how easy the lads made it look, especially after last week's dour battle.
What were your 3 favourite bits?
I loved:
Heath's smother
Didak's Cha-cha
The glimpse of Robert Walls' face near the end - priceless.:D
I also loved Mick down on the boundary line at the end.:thumbsu:
Seriously - to give the lads that mental edge. What harm could it do?
Some creative visualisation in front of goal for our forwards might help. Nothing else has worked consistently.
It was an excellent venue, with room for everyone who turned up, and enough big screens for everyone to get a good view. Lots of clean toilets, with club merchandise, food and non-alcoholic drinks available.
The crowd was great - pure Collingwood, great camaraderie, pure passion unleashed. And...
We didn't lose, and we've got another chance, and one more game to enjoy this year.
Next time our midfielders will be out for revenge, and we have depth players with succulent, fresh legs to choose from.:thumbsu:
Another positive Pie story from The Age.
Merv Collins - September 16, 2010
A sick relative brings out some Magpie magic, from president to player.
There he (Harry) was on a Sunday afternoon, when he could have been anywhere, visiting a bloke he didn't know. The footballer, the chaplain...
I listened to Phil Carman on SEN the other night. He was talking about being rubbed out for the 1977 GF because he struck Michael Tuck. I know something similar happened with Rocca too. I'm worried that Leigh Brown will get a bit carried away on Friday night and do something silly.
Yes, it...
I've always thought that a strong, well-structured bum, driven by a big heart, was critical for elite footy poise, and now Leroy's posterior is taking its seat among the great bums of the game.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
This from The Age:
A QUICK WORD WITH ... LEIGH BROWN'S BUM...
Got a strange text today from one of our well-respected posters. It read;
Can't risk this 1. An interesting fact about August 2010: (sic) This August has 5 Sundays, 5 Mondays and 5 Tuesdays, all in 1 month. It happens once in 823 years. These are money bags. Pass them on to 8 good people and...
Don't miss it! It's a 16-page supplement celebrating the Minor Premiers. Even John Brumby has weighed in with an article.:thumbsu: Keep it as a souvenir of our premiership year.:)
I heard Mick on SEN earlier - fascinating. This man's entire being is focused on winning a flag.
I missed the start of the interview, came in when he was talking about how the euphoria of winning evaporates even before he gets down to the rooms. He says he immediately turns his mind to the...
The footy theme in today's papers and on talk-back radio seems to be that that the only teams that can seriously win the flag are Collingwood, Geelong, St Kilda, and maybe Hawks.
See this Herald Sun article by Mike Sheahan:
It's a three-horse race
THEY'VE been the three front-runners...
It's a fairytale season for Leigh Brown. The good Footy Fairies have given him the power to ruck, chase, tackle, kick goals, to monster the opposition players and to offer tender encouragement to his fellow Magpies. Everything he touches is going to turn to goals.:thumbsu:
And we're all going...
With all the lid-blowing excitement over what’s happening on-field, let’s not forget the critical role played in Collingwood’s success by its active, ardent barrackers.
This thread is designed to record and celebrate, in a series of interviews, the involvement of BF Pies posters over the 2010...
From that renowned Collingwood barracker, Rudyard Kippling:
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you aim true and don’t lean back when...
Our Spanish exchange student wants to come to the game with Homp and me tomorrow. We have reserved seats, with plenty of seats around us that are always empty. We went to Westpac today to get Moni a seat next to us, but they said a) they don't sell tiks atm and b) we won't be able to get her...
Do any Pies players have 'a natural arc" when they should be going in a straight line, or is it exclusive to Buddy?
I don't quite understand it.
Do you think it'll work? I'm thinking of applying.
We need female umps, says Western Bulldogs board member Susan Alberti - Michael Warner, Herald Sun, July 14
AN AFL club director has called for the introduction of female field umpires at the elite level.
Western Bulldogs board member Susan...
Not wishing to preempt matters, but if we finish 3rd on the ladder, which team would we play first in finals, assuming this is the order of the final eight?
Geelong
St. Kilda
Collingwood
Bulldogs
Fremantle
Hawthorne
Carlton
Sydney
Btw, I still think we can come second.
This thread is by way of a census. I want to know how many of us females there are here in Pies BF world. There are certainly plenty of women at the footy, but I only know of a few here, unless some I've always taken for males decide to reveal themselves. Old Spice? Sure it's not Old Dior Dior...
You're going to be executed, unless a Pies player can score from a set shot - from 50 metres, on a 35 degree angle. You get to choose who will take the kick. Pick!
