Just did a quick anaylis of both lists that were playing on the weekend

Gold Coast had 11 first round picks excluding guys like Gaz & the underage recruits like Trent mackenzie, Charlie Dixson, Zac Smith & S May..

We had 5 first rounders & a whole heap of rookies.

Stating the obvious but their class was evident in their disposal and finishing. They are going to be a force next year for a long time.

What is funny is that we had them on the ropes while they were full strength...we just couldn't convert.

TO be fair, we went in with a game plan and it worked well in the first half. We totally stifled their run, and looked dangerous going forward.

The problem was that without White, Fasolo and Elliott, we had no one up forward to kick goals. We weren't getting our typical midfield input either which was a worry.

In the second half, they Suns copped an enormous amount of injuries but were able to get on top. This is concerning as our fitness is supposed to be pretty good.

Again in the last quarter we had opportunities which we failed to convert. Had Young grabbed that mark then we'd be all quite content and glad to have the game behind us. It was always a danger game.

There are major issues there...but I think it all comes down to getting more forwards who can kick goals. Elliott coming back already makes us a 3 goal better side...and I reckon Karnezis will add a bit of value as well.

Then we can look at guys like Broomhead and Kennedy close to goal as they have real class and pace about them. This replaces the likes of Grundy, Goldsack, Dwyer and Blair who just aren't offering enough on the scoreboard right now. I'd keep just Goldsack for defensive pressure and then go all out attack with the other 5 forwards. Elliott and Kennedy are great tacklers anyway...and Broomhead has a dip.

To be honest when we were on the ropes in the last and they had no bench, I was of the opinion it would've been the worst win I've ever seen. There was enough evidence throughout the second half to suggest we weren't a top 4 contender in the slightest and we're a long way away from being a premiership contender at this rate. Yes we need to get some consistency with players, however we can't be relying on Maxwell or White. Reid and Brown are different prospects, but other teams have been able to cover when they've had injuries.

I think our attempts to bolster our forward line with White and Lynch in the last 2 years have been failures (not necessarily Richmond recruitment failures but unsuccessful nonetheless) and we're still lacking potency going forward. Our midfield is getting older and we should be capitalising on it. I personally believe we should go hard for a player like Cameron or at least someone with proven history (like Sydney has the previous 2 years). No I don't think Buddy would've been suitable, but the fact is we're lacking a big tall forward option.

Our backline is getting better with more games behind them and should be better next year. But winning against the GC would've done very little in the way of papering over cracks in my opinion, our real final prospects were plain to see in that second half.

People need to relax and remember we have a very young list. Our great start to the year was never going to last and probably made everyone adjust their expectations for the season a little high. (Iim one of them)
With our defence being smashed as it has, just be happy we arent a bottom 4 team. If we finish top 6 its probably where we are at, and with the amount of injury (and to whom) we probably should be lower.
Yes it was a shitty loss, but the GC are a good team on the rise. We WILL get better so everyone stay calm.

The loss stings, but I can think of plenty that hurt just as much. We had some downright disgraceful losses in the 2006-12 period, yet it was probably our most successful since the 70s! No matter how good your season, you lose some bad ones. Even in 2010 we lost to Geelong easily, then Brisbane and drew with Melbourne two games later.
