I think people are underestimating Aish when saying Boyd is a clear number 1. Aish is an amazing talent who has played well at SANFL leve.

That would be a more than fair deal I would have thought. You'd be very confident of getting someone at least as good as Sloane with pick 2 and you effectively get Watts (who would slot in nicely across HB) as the "steak knives". It may take you out of legit flag contention in the next year or two though, until whoever you get at 2 and Crouch are really ready to make a strong contribution. That might be just what you need to do though to build a real premiership quality list.
If West Coast had the #1 pick, I'd say there's a 100% chance they'd take either James Aish or Dom Sheed.Darling would get it.
Naitanui would need more.
I personally wouldn't trade Shuey for it. But i think most might.
Only other option is Gaff and our first rounder. Wce really has little to no need for no. 1 this year though. We need gun mids and boyd is best available.

Have heard whispers GWS are very keen on Ben Reid, with the no.1 pick obviously looming as the carrot for the pies.
No it wouldn't.Don't want TBC to leave the dons.
BUT, TBC plus 1st round pick would get close to pick 1.
Hickey going for pick 13 last year has set the currency for ruckmen and TBC is a better prospect.
minson and top round pick. or they give us 10 or something??Don't forget GWS has pick 10 too.
No it wouldn't.
If they want Bellchambers (or Leuenberger for that matter), they'll get him for free in the PSD. Both are out of contract.

Clubs don't generally pull that shit because they don't want to burn bridges. They have to work with these other clubs year in, year out. It might be used to get a slight discount (say, giving up pick 10 for Bellchambers instead of pick 1, since we're using him as our hypothetical) but a straight out "walk out on your club and we'll get you in the PSD" is pretty rare these days.
The old PSD card. It's really laughable.
If they want either want out to GWS, you can guarantee they will be traded and the club losing the player will be compensated accordingly.
Leuenberger has made his intentions clear by stating he wants to remain with the club.
Bellchambers leaving Essendon would not leave them short and they would get an early draft pick in the 9-12 range or a young midfielder who has shown he he has the capabilities to become a very good player.
It's just amusing when posters bring up the PSD card. Clubs will always likely avoid it and get the best possible compensation for their player.
As it's been pointed out Clubs don't usually play that card. Hurts their 'trade' reputation and clubs will be less likely to deal with them in the future.
Have to laugh at this, mainly the second post for saying it's amusing? Did you just conveniently forget about Kurt Tippett and Zac Dawson?
Would the pursuing club rather push for a trade to get their uncontracted player? Sure they would, mainly because it gets them at the club early among other reasons. If the club losing the player demands a first round pick however (in this discussion, it's pick 1), it gets laughed at. If you seriously think GWS would be stupid enough to hand over pick 1, or even pick 10 for the likes of Bellchambers or Leuenberger or any other uncontracted player when they could get either of them free in the PSD, then you're clearly not very bright. Saying they wouldn't do it because they'd lose reputation on the trade table is utterly stupid as well, I don't think they'd give much of a shit so long as they retain their two valuable first round draft picks, which could be used to bring in perhaps a contracted player, in other words, someone with actual value.
Could they get Leuenberger? Probably not, especially if he wants to stay at the club, Brisbane value him highly as well.
Could they get Bellchambers? Of course they could, especially if he's on the fringe at the Bombers.
How is this not relevant? So what if Fremantle didn't attempt to trade, GWS have no more inclination to trade either, why couldn't Leuenberger or Bellchambers walk out to GWS for more money? Don't say they wouldn't either, you wouldn't have a clue.Ok, now I'm laughing. You're using Kurt Tippett as an example? He was forced into the PSD by the AFL. Fremantle didn't attempt to trade for Zac Dawson, instead he walked out on his club like a fair few have. So congrats on your grand total of zero relevant examples.

Plenty more examples as well: Luke Ball, Adam McPhee, Daniel Bradshaw, Joel Macdonald, Bachar Houli. Explain all of those, sunshine.
First paragraph, read my last post. You did give me a good laugh. Thanks, it brightened up my day a bit.
The Kurt Tippet scenario is completely different. Didnt Dawson just walk out on the Saints. There for Fremantle didnt need to bother to make an attempt to trade for him. Zac Dawson was no star back at the Saints. Plenty of average players go in the PSD because they have little trade value so the club they are leaving don't care. Bellchambers and Leuenberger clearly don't fall in that category.
I sure as hell think Clubs would give a shit. They work like businesses do these days. If a business got ripped off on a stock order from another company it brings down their reputation. Would the business being ripped off or any other business that gets stock from them continue to do so? The answer no and others would be vary wary. Only quick example that came to mind.
Bellchambers and Leuenberger don't have value because they aren't contracted? My god you are very delusional.
So what if it wasn't the PSD? That doesn't change the fact that he left the club for nothing.Luke Ball wasn't PSD. McPhee, Bradshaw and Macdonald both walked out without any attempt to trade. Essendon refused to trade Houli, so that would be the closest analogy. Well done on that.
The reason none of the others were relevant was because we were discussing why clubs trade for players rather than getting them to walk out on their existing club so they can take them in the preseason draft. Houli and Ball were the only two there where there was trade discussions prior to the players leaving for the club trying to trade for them.
Why did GWS trade for Gilham instead of taking him first pick in the PSD then? Gilham wanted to leave because GWS offered him post-AFL incentives, and GWS had pick 1 in the PSD. Under your scenario, why trade? GWS gave up Jed Anderson for him too, he was rated around pick 20 from memory.
Another example, Jordan McMahon was out of contract, with Richmond having the first pick in the PSD way back in 07. Yet Richmond handed over pick 19 for him, rather than taking him with their first pick in the PSD. Same can be said for Morton who cost Richmond pick 35.
Really - what were they?
The Giants were not only offering Gilham the chance to play regularly, they dangled the carrot of a post-playing career, either in the coaches' box or in game development.
A coaching spot after he wraps up, similar to Cornes, Power, etc.
