Dimma said at the presser he was out for the rest of the season.
Now it gives him a bit of time to get his shoulder right before next season.

Batchelor (and us supporters) can be pretty pleased with his first season I reckon. Decent size, good kick and a ton of courage. The club did well with pick 30. :thumbsu:

.. our Nick Maxwell :thumbsu:

Probably my favourite of our young players. Such a ridiculous idea that he was predicted to go around 60-70. He's like the complete footballer.

So with 2011 drawing to a close, it's time to sum up my boy's first season of AFL with the Mighty Tigers.

Had an immediate impact through the pre-season which saw Jake debut immediately in round 1 and was certainly not given a soft introduction with the coach giving him a run of tough early match-ups.

Over the ensuing weeks he compiled a fine first season with 16 games in total... averaging 12.6 disposals, 3.3 marks and 3.1 tackles.

Season highlights:
Round 7 v Fremantle: 23 disposals (17 kicks & 6 hand balls)
Round 14 v Melbourne: 18 disposals with 6 tackles
Round 16 v Essendon: 22 disposals (11 kicks & 11 hand balls)
This round 16 performance earned Batch a NAB Rising Star nomination... much deserved.

Rewarded by The Tigers in November with an extension to his existing contract which sees Jake at the Tigers until the end of the 2013 season.

Throughout the year, Batchelor impressed all with his maturity, commitment & work ethic and his good decision making and laser like left foot out of defence made him look every bit a 200 gamer.
Is already almost a 'lock' in the Richmond backline which is a tremendous indication of his achievements so far as well as his potential.

A ripper first year Jake... can't wait to see you go around again in 2012.

With thanks to The RFC Website & Roar Focus, Jake talks about his pre-season, his first year last year and his focus for 2012.

Interesting that he has trained with the midfield group and that the intention is for him to play a little more upfield this season.

Seems such a solid footballer and character and is headed for a ripper 2nd year. :thumbsu:

Hmm I wonder if he could make it in the midfield, would be great. Reminds me a lot of Joel Corey at times.

Thought he did well in the middle. Especially considering we've had houli and deledio struggle in the middle in previous seasons but have been played down back and done better. Looks like he could be both an inside mid or outside.

But i don't really like the number 11 on him looked a lot better in 31.

OK... a somewhat belated update to Batch's start to the 2012 season.

After a slow pre-season, Batch was left out of our annual round 1 Carlton loss and in hindsight, his marking and cool head would have been valuable in that last qtr v the Blues.

Was elevated from round 2 and has shown all the atributes that make him IMO, the backline 'captain' in our next premiership side!

His output has increased - av. disposals from 12.6 last year to 18.3 and marks from 3.3 to 6.2 and his ability to read and intercept with a well timed mark an oposition entry into our back half has greatly helped the obvious improvement in our points against this year.

Disposal effectiveness and decision making is also a feature but most of all, his pressure and tackling and smothering is very important to the whole team.

One moment v The Swans in particular... where a smother of a Swans players boot was immediately followed up with a run down tackle sticks in the mind.

Hope his minor 'cork' last week is all OK and the Batch again puts in a cool and classy performance in a massive game v The Bummers this Saturdey night.

Get on board and join the Batchelor Party Tigers!!!! :thumbsu:

I know it's a Batchelor thread but the overall inexperience in our backline and how well their playing together is incredible !
