We seemed to have a trend of players getting re-injured during rehab last season....so if we reduce his rehab time the probability of re-inury would likely be reduced 🤔
agree! no rehab means no chance of reinjury during rehab

Has not joined in full training yet. Not that means a lot right now. We will get an idea of his time line once he joins the main group. If he is back in match sim by the last week of Jan then he will be around the week 1 or 2 mark.
Yeh for a player of his quality you probably want atleast that 6 weeks of quantity

His leadership is truly exceptional, especially while he's injured; we don't need to rush him at all until about August should be OK. Let him work his magic from the rehab group until then.

See I don’t see it as sentimental but rather pragmatic.

When it comes to our list structure/mid mix we’ve decided moving forward the A mix is Martin (Sweeper) Caldwell (first hands) and Durham (exit )

B mix likely Tsatsas (def) parish (hands) Zerrett (explosive/user)

Then we have Farrow Sharpe and Robey as the next gen version (who are let’s say 3 seasons away)

With Martin out for the year we need a mature defensive big bodied mid who’s willing to play for Essendon. But who also knows it’s just for a year as Martin will be back and the young guys will take priority next season.

When you make a list of proven professional and productive players at AFL level who are willing to take that role and are available the list gets real short real fast.

Setters injury has him missing the first 8 weeks during which you’d want to be getting games into the kids then anyway, they’d be due a rest by the time he’s back.

Then see how it goes. Worse case cut him midseason and go to the msd if his injury timeline is an issue. Get the best available VFL mid with an established run of form.

As far as project players go. We have them on every line. Our issue isn’t a lack of projects it’s lack of good AFL players with high end talent.

I get the impulse to bring in as much young talent as possible but that’s not helpful to an actual rebuild. Need adults too
l if he’s out for the first eight weeks it’s a worst decision than I thought

That is just completely made up atm. He would need a setback for that to be the case

Which is why we mayhe couldve held off for another 2 months, but it allows greater opportunity for another club to swoop

Mid July injury, 6-12 months is the expected injury length. So 8 weeks missed is the upper end of that. Could be a bit more, could be less but we won't know until he returns to training after Christmas.

Not speaking for KA

But I was pro keeping Setterfield and not because I thought he would play 22 games

Just thought there is enough green talent on the list that he is a good, mature person to have around for a year, who might play a dozen good games

If it goes better than that, what a win. I rate him when fit. But if he doesn’t get on the park not a lot has been lost. A shot at an exciting SSP selection maybe, but there are already so many kids on our list awaiting their chance.

That SSP signing does not need to be Nic Martin, but at least they will be healthy and play their guts out in the VFL.

Problem is a dozen good games is the absolute best you could hope for. Given his history its more likely he spends the majority in rehab.

And with all due respect keeping someone who won't play around because they're a mature person..... thats what coaches are for. You keep players around because you expect them to play.

I think all Scott is hoping for is someone that can come in if one of his first choice mids are injured.
i.e Caldwell or Durham goes down, he can rely on Setterfield to play 80% of time on ball.

Fantastic plan. Have the injury prone player as cover for injuries.

It’s a one year gamble - one I would take, but I totally get your point of view too.

You keep him around in the hope he gets right. Just saying that if he doesn’t his professionalism mitigates the loss somewhat. Then he’s gone at the end of the year.

Spot on

You need professional, hard working leaders, to lead the youth which we have more than the usual right now

We also have no experienced/maturity in the regard to big body mids

It wouldve been
Robey
D.Sharp
Farrow* (sortve/think his aim will be to become similar to what pendles and bont are)

Instead its

Setters
Robey
D.Sharp
Farrow

This amazing masterpiece kid has already been overlooked by 18 clubs including us, several times over

Its in a way more required to what goldy was here for and we still had more experience in that area with Draper and Bryan

But I feel were just being made, to go over old ground here

Everyone but KA: ‘we shouldn’t pick up Setterfield because there’s a high chance he spends significant amounts of the season injured and can’t cover injuries when we need him.’

Essendon signs Setterfield

KA: ‘ha all you IDIOTS got it wrong because Essendon signed him even though you all said it was a bad idea because he’d be injured’

Setterfield proceeds to be injured.

KA:

I havnt heard anything, What's the go?
