i don't think he's a poor player at all but upgrades in his role are fairly cheap and we ought to have pulled the trigger.

Hocking is a very good comparison.

Hocking was a much better player. Kicked the ball better and had way more offensive game. Not that I hate Setterfield. He is just a good ordinary player who battles hard and is filling a role that we have limited numbers to fill. Bit like Hobbs. Gets a game because he plays with physical commitment 100% of the time.

What he does is something not many others on our list do

It’s also not very ambitious.

It’s like he sets the table and we need better chefs

The difference between our midfield when he does play & doesn’t play is pretty significant IMO.

In an ideal world, there’s a younger, more offensively rounded version of him who takes his place, and that should be a recruitment priority, but he’s doing a fine job right now.

Not by me. There are players better than him sure but I would rather a tackling robot opposed to a bruise free emotional wreck.

Him and Duursma slide under the radar but they both play the game the right way. Great to have in the team.

I don’t think he keeping Tsatas out. Tsatas is keeping Tsatas out. If Tsatas can do all the ugly stuff like Setters than he will be a winner. If Setters was a pretty inside midfielder like Tsatas he wouldn’t be in the team. I didn’t compare Setters to Hocking on their ability more so on their role for the team and their selflessness.

He has had a very interrupted career as well. He probably doesn’t even know his own limits?

He's not a bad kick when he has time, and can spot up i50 targets. I think his bigger frame makes it more challenging to get a decent kick away when the oppo is closing in.

The kick forward in the first quarter sums him up. Had to put it out in front of the forwards but managed to fade it the opposite way to their leads. Even in space he can be hit and miss. He is not on his own by any rate. He has generally rated average as far as kicking efficiency goes. Like I said. Fine tune it a bit.

If he stays injury free he is worth having on the list next year, even if just for depth.
