peter lane kicked 100 in the under 19s in 1980 - went to my school whitefriars (flying dutchman territory) don't know where he went but they had fully sick depth back then - didn't eventuate into future flags however - only numbers would ever remember peter lane............

Yep. Was a gun. Had the Abraham Lincoln beard going. Tall lean guy and a great kick

PS my kids went to whitefriars [emoji106]

Have we commissioned the statue for the front of PP yet?

Kid is going to be something special.

Holy ****!

Are we actually contemplating letting a highly regarded first round pick learn the game against men before chucking him in the deep end?

Bolts has lost the plot. Sakc immediately, ffs.

Most interesting parts:

Stocker is currently learning the ropes as a defender, with Carlton coach Brendon Bolton saying the club will take a patient approach with the youngster's growth and not fast-track his rise into the senior team early in the upcoming season.

But it's down back where Carlton expects him to play throughout the formative years of his senior career, which is likely to begin in the VFL with the Northern Blues.

"We've been training him down back in the VFL at the moment, but he's learning team defence. The under-18s don't often play that way and it takes a little bit of time to come to terms with it.

"But he's got a really powerful kick and he's really physical in the contest. Those two ingredients we like, but now he's just learning team defence."

All media experts will focus on Liam this year and question why he hasn't come on immediately, meanwhile someone like LDU is still "tracking beautifully"..

I said it when we drafted him. The big advantage is we get a talented young player in that will have an extra year to develop. Means a lot especially considering where we are at. I really like what we are doing with Stocker. Good that we will have a better VFL side for these players to develop

This apprenticeship is an absolutely essential part of Stocker’s development.

The article touches on it briefly, but the biggest question marks I heard were on his endurance, defensive running and mental toughness/resilience. You might argue that all of these are at least somewhat interwoven.

He simply must learn to think more accountably, and Bolts was actually quite explicit in calling this out - how different junior footy is in this regard.

Whether he makes it or not, he’s in an ideal learning environment to develop with Bolts & Russell steering the ship. It now all comes down to how he embraces a growth mindset and how hungry he is to improve... Fingers crossed. He could - COULD - be a weapon if he gets these areas right.

The extra year's development is going to mean a lot, especially someone who needs to develop some endurance. Good player development and an ability to finally play blokes who aren't ready in the reserves and train them a bit harder. So many good players have taken this path, Tom Mitchell being one of the most recent to slog it out in the reserves. It would be a big achievement for him to make it into the AFL side as a defender.

I would think someone like Russell would have had a bit to do with this. He would know as well as anyone what players need to be able to do in regards to fitness. Just needs to pass the tests and start playing some midfield.

I do like it very much that he's getting a backline education, doesn't hurt to have players up forward and down back who have an idea of how to defend.

Would have been thrown into the AFL in previous years. Good to see.

This is exactly where we need to be as a club. Assessing our draftees strengths and weaknesses then developing them in the VFL.

Liam is obviously a contested ball beast with a ‘see ball, get ball’ mentality. Needs to improve his endurance, two way running and defensive mindset.

For the first time in a long time the clubs not bowing to public/media pressure and are transparent in their plans.

So glad we got the extra year to develop him..
