According to SOS, inside our top ten (well inside our top ten).
If that is the case, then who cares where the Crows finish next year, if we rated Liam well inside the top ten. In my mind we just swapped an early pick next year for one this year.......sort of

Thats right we bought a player in we wanted and got 2019 first round pick as insurance.

Endurance shouldn't be a problem if his attitude and work rate is so good, he'll likely improve it. Who would have thought Cripps would be powering through huge midfield minutes, based on his first year or so. But where there's a will, there's a way.

Think of Cripps rotating to the forward line causing mis matches.

I think the endurance side of his game is his weakness. For someone who went full time I expected something a little better. I think his competitiveness and hunger for the contest is something that shields this well. Endurance can be worked on, so I am not too bothered, but just don't think it is a strength of his right now.
Based on.

Knightmare has him 10-30

Although in reality it's not where they're ranked as juniors but how they perform once they hit the club. Plenty of stories of top 10 juniors who couldn't make it work at the top level, and "10-30" ranked players (hello, Cripps & Docherty!).. I think it's a bold move and one which could pay dividends - especially if we are going to send off our first rounder for some mature currency next year - but his work rate and self belief has been outstanding... coming back from a broken jaw to win the Morish speaks to resilience and character.

Bit of perspective, Stocker has similar attributes to an Angus Brayshaw. Uses the ball very well both sides of the body, harder than a cats head, very good extractor of the ball and like Walsh, great workrate and endurance

Why didn't he go pick 1 then?

On pure draft value index: Pick 19 = 948 points

If we finish 18th in 2019 (3000 points) and Adelaide finish 15th (2034) or higher, they win.
If we finish 17th (2517) and Adelaide finish 10th (1469) or higher, they win.
If we finish 16th (2234) and Adelaide finish 6th (1212) or higher, they win.
If we finish 15th (2034) and Adelaide finish 3rd (1469) or higher, they win.

In those cases, 15th - 10th - 6th - 3rd is about break-even, then it gets worse for us the higher they go.

This does NOT take into account the difference in draft pool strengths between 2018 and 2019.

Hope this gives the decision a little more perspective.

Using draft pick pints in any argument is useless - you could have ten 10th round picks and they would probably 'equate' to a first round pick, but do they really?

And people get hung-up on next year - we are picking Stocker not for 2019 but for the next 10-12 years. Add to that, how many no.1 draft picks have we had and how many have played in a premiership? overated no.1 draft picks - its not the number you get drafted but how the club develops you and drafts players as a collective

I really like this trade for the blues. No offence but your team needs more depth and this is a deep draft for midfielders. If you look at the draft calculator, even if say Adelaide finish with pick 5 and Carlton finish with pick 20, you've lost the equivalent of.... pick 44. Not worth panicking about blues fans. I like the fit for Carlton and the blues have their midfield tent pegs in Cripps, Walsh and Dow anyway, time to fill it in a bit. I know most people would prefer 5 and 44 to 19 and 20 but if you look at the history of the draft they're not that dissimilar in terms of the talent brought in. Carlton need more picks and this gets you that. Adelaide will death ride you but you've got the main pieces already.

There's no tenth round, bit even of there were, the points fade into nothing meaning eventually some picks are worth no points.

Not every high draft pick works out. History tells us that having one number one pick is as likely to yield a syar as say having five picks in the early 30s.

I renewed on Monday
Log on to your account/ profile. There's a section where you can select your preferences for how the club contacts you. I missed out on emails for a couple of years coz some nong had deselected that option.

I like the trade - it’s ballsy. It sends the message that we’re not just in it for the high draft picks any more. We’re actively trying to get better as fast as we can & we’re trying different ways to do it. We’ve had enough high picks to last a lifetime.
