I'm looking forward to seeing him play but he's only 18 and I hope expectations are not too high.
Fevola and Franklin in their first full years for Carlton and Hawthorn only averaged 1 goal per game so we should not expect more than that in 2009
Anything more would be a bonus

Scott

Or the end of 2007 when he was signed.
You remind me of me.

A smartass.

But to out smartass you. His career started when he was less than 1 and he touched a football for the first time ever

Nice to see that you have seen the light and jumped back to the Crows

I prefer the lions, but that's only because Aaron Kite is metro.

ADELAIDE has moved to hose down what it claims are unrealistic expectations of exciting young forward Taylor Walker.

While the Crows are confident Walker will become "a really good player" - and should play in Saturday night's NAB Cup opener against Geelong at Telstra Dome - they are concerned fans expect too much from him this year.

"There's this expectation from people that Taylor Walker will go out and kick 100 goals this season," Adelaide football operations manager John Reid said.

"But you have to be realistic.

"He's 18 years old and hasn't played a game of AFL football yet.

"We think Taylor will be a really good player but he's probably going to have to serve an apprenticeship.

"It will probably be another three years before he's going to be a top player."

The much-hyped, high-leaping Walker has been one of the talks of the town since showcasing his explosiveness with seven goals for Norwood in last year's SANFL elimination final.

Adelaide fans and former players view him as the club's long-awaited forward line saviour, with many pushing for the Broken Hill product to have played last year.

Coach Neil Craig didn't think Walker - the Crows' first NSW scholarship player - was ready for the AFL but he described some of his SANFL finals play as "quite exceptional".

However, Reid insists he is still a long way away from being an AFL match-winner.

He said Adelaide wants nothing more from him this year than to play regular AFL football.

"That's got to be his first objective, you worry about all the fancies later," Reid said.

"All we want from him is to show he can play AFL footy, handle it OK, and be a contributor to a winning team, not a match-winner."

Reid said 192cm Walker, who booted 56 goals for the Redlegs last year, was bigger and stronger this campaign after a stellar pre-season.

But while the Crows are crying out for another attacking weapon, Reid said Walker was no walk-up start for round one of the AFL premiership season.

"That will depend on his pre-season form," Reid said.

"He's given himself a chance by having a strong pre-season but he's still got some work to do to get into the side - and then he's got to stay there.

"He's an 18-year-old and you know what happens to most 18-year-olds, they are in and out of the side.

"I've got no doubt Taylor will have periods of that this year."

Key midfielder Nathan van Berlo is out of the Crows' NAB Cup campaign after being diagnosed with an acute tear in the plantar fascia in the sole of his right foot.

He will spend a week on crutches and is unlikely to play for a month.

Good to see the club come out and douse expectations a little bit. I know Craig always talks about expectation being a good thing and I doubt that Walker is the kind of kid to let it all get to him but it is crazy that people are talking about Walker like he's already an AFL star. Hopefully this will pull people's heads back in a bit and let the kid start to make a name for himself instead of trying to grow into shoes way too big for any 18 year old.

It could happen. A goal every 30 seconds of playing time would give him 160 goals. All we need is our rucks to be on song, tap it down to him in the centre, he spins around and launches a massive torp through the goals and we can reload :thumbsu:

I am talking Tony Lockett record. 1350 goals after 1 game, he is that damm good.

Now we're talking every 4 or 5 seconds which won't be easy. Perhaps he can do it in the NAB Cup and get 9 points per goal to save some time.

You underestimate the talent of the one and only T Walker.

A goal every 4 or 5 seconds, easy, that would still give him time to brush his hair and clean his teeth.
