CAREER
Anthony Corrie arrives at Collingwood following five injury-prone seasons at the Brisbane Lions.

The pacy small forward and occasional midfielder was originally drafted by the Lions at pick 44 in the 2002 National Draft. Corrie had to wait until Round 4 2004 to make his debut, lining up against West Coast when he collected 16 possessions in a three-point loss.

Corrie's debut season was interrupted after he clashed with Essendon defender Dustin Fletcher and broke his jaw.

After only eight matches in 2004 Corrie cemented a spot in the Brisbane line-up the following year when he played 19 games, kicking 22 goals and laying 56 tackles for the season.

However, a finger injury and a ruptured ACL restricted Corrie to just four matches in the 2006 season after which he was delsited by the Lions, only to be redrafted as a rookie at the end of the year.

Corrie could only manage two appearances in 2007 but found opportunities easier to come by last season when he played 20 matches and kicked 21 goals.

Despite playing all but two of the Lions' matches Brisbane decided to trade Corrie to Collingwood in exchange for pick 93 following the 2008 season.

Corrie has played most of his football as a crumbing forward but has also had some success as a dashing defender and it is in this role that he may find a place in the Magpie team.

PRE-SEASON v. WEST COAST

One of the interesting features of last night was always going to be our first glance at Brisbane recruit Anthony Corrie, in particular what he can offer the Pies and what role he would play.

Over the night he amassed 17 possession, laid three tackles and registered one behind and an out-of-bounds on the full.

Corrie did most of his work in the forward half, showed a bit of pace at times and was prepared to work hard to keep the ball locked in the forward line.

He was given a run through the midfield late in the game, got to a few contests and had a long ping at a supergoal which missed badly.

On the surface it looks as though he may have been recruited as a bit of a back up for Leon Davis in that he will probably play most of his footy in attack with an occasion burst in the middle.

Whether he makes our best 22 is doubtful I would say, especially as we are spoilt for choice when it comes to small forwards/occasional midfielders.

Not a bad start from Corrie but work to do to squeeze into the team for Round 1.

FEEL FREE TO ADD YOUR IMPRESSIONS OF CORRIE FROM LAST NIGHT OR HIS TIME AT BRISSIE AND WHETHER YOU THINK HE WILL PLAY A ROLE FOR US THIS YEAR...

PRE-SEASON v RICHMOND & ESSENDON

Early signs are that Corrie is not in Mick's plans to start the season. He was left out of the match against Richmond and had limited impact in the Semi-Final against Essendon (3 disposals).

It appears that Corrie realises this as he laid as many tackles as possessions gained so his work rate has been pretty high.

What a waste i cant believe we got him. He will struggle to play good football in the vfl.

Living in Perth you don't get much news about the players outside the starting 22 each week so it was quite surprising to see Anthony Corrie named as an emergency over the last few weeks given his uninspiring pre-season form.

However, coming in as a late replacement for Heath Shaw, Corrie was a more than handy contributor last night in his Collingwood debut.

20 possessions and 2 goals (one a beauty from 50m out on the boundary in the 2nd quarter) in his first match was a great start and he looks to have at least earned another crack next week.

Looks as though he can sometimes move too fast for his own good and needs to steady a little before he passes the ball by foot.

The next 2 or 3 weeks are going to shape his season, one way or the other...

What ended up happening to Anthony Corrie last year? Did he get injured or something or just was in bad form?

He had one fantastic season at the Lions and was my favourite player for a while but then we got rid of him for some reason that I could never understand. Suprised he didn't do better at the Pies last year, I hope he can turn in around in 2010
