You don’t just get handed votes because you play midfield. To poll the amount of votes Tim has you need to be pretty good at it. Does he have limitations? Sure! But labelling a “good average player” is underselling him a tad in my eyes (and the umpires, it would seem).Nah you're right, I said he was a good average player, a 7/10, and that he gets votes (like most – which is fact) due to the position they play.
What label would you have him at, and what do you feel like his rating would be out of 10?You don’t just get handed votes because you play midfield. how can you say that midfielders don't always poll?

Yeah, a fantastic effort from him. The umpires can recognise what even a lot of us supporters can’t.
Get some more speed around him (and Hopper) and they can still be very good players for a few more years to come!
Literally got a bunch of votes because he plays in the middle of the ground and the umps need to give someone votes.
Don't get me wrong, he's a 7/10 player and good enough, but his (like many) vote numbers have been inflated because of his position.
You might need to read my post again where I say I don’t disagree with that![]()
What ridiculous rationale , considering we lost 18 games me finks there were plenty of other players that could have got the votes ,Literally got a bunch of votes because he plays in the middle of the ground and the umps need to give someone votes.

Midfielders tend to get the lions share of votes. No argument. But you say it as though Taranto getting votes is some sort of participation award, and his ability (or lack, thereof in your mind) is of no consequence.2025: Matt Rowell (Contested Midfielder)

Tim Taranto is a...?
And even though it's predominantly a midfielder's award, you've still got to better than the opposition's array of midfielders to get the votes. You don’t just get handed votes because you play midfield. Also begs the question of how many votes he would have got had he not taken the foot off the pedal in the later roundsThink it just goes to show Taranto is our only decent mid LOL
Would be a brilliant skipper...We should do it...It's time he was appointed captain for 2026. Solid citizen, good speaker, leads by example, rarely has his colours lowered. His 7 years/ $5mil contract is shaping as one of the all time bargains. 2 more years as primarily a mid then phase him to HFF as his goalkicking is impeccable. Aside from his <average kicking he's a complete footballer with few flaws.
Umpires umpire games, theyre not tactical geniuses. the game has moved on by a million miles. You don’t just get handed votes because you play midfield. Ok thenGun player, and on his way to becoming one of the all-time Tiger champions.
I don’t think he is elite. A very solid footballer in the vintage of Wayne Campbell, Kane Johnson & Dan Jackson. Knows how to find the “pill” and works hard, but will have his detractors because he’s not agile, defensive flaws and tends to dump kick when under the pump. May well be captain material as he comes across as a good citizen and we have a significant gap in our leadership age profile. And even though it's predominantly a midfielder's award, you've still got to better than the opposition's array of midfielders to get the votes.
TT outvoted Miller, Rowell and Anderson against the Suns, just for starters.
Gun player, and on his way to becoming one of the all-time Tiger champions.
32nd in the coaches votes per game playing for a 5 win side this year.Umpires umpire games, theyre not tactical geniuses. the game has moved on by a million miles.
TT is a good average player at best. and a bad midfielder. his best work is forwards.
I dont rate him as high as you do, I look at what the midfielders role is (in the modern game), its not just winning the ball- that was a thing a decade ago, some people think that means a lot, it doesnt. If youre playing midfiield your job is being able to distribute the ball well and find the right options. That is why youre in the centre. right?32nd in the coaches votes per game playing for a 5 win side this year.
21s in coaches votes per game in 2023.
3 time best and fairest winner, including 2019 when GWS made the grand final.
He is a great player, he just isn't a superstar.
Good average players don't have 271 career coaches votes.
Would say, unlike the umpires, coaches would be tactical geniuses.
A good average player is someone like Crisp, Simpkin, Cerra, Hopper, Worpel, Drew.

From what ive seen I like his character as a person, and like his forward craft.
His game style does not suit midfield.
its the most important.Winning the ball + using the ball well by hand and foot....that's important as well.
