Think with more gametime and development, he could become our best inside midfielder.

Really like how he composes himself, and then deliver.

Swallow struggling, Cunners has (seemingly) gone backwards, Ziebell best playing utility role.

I'm confident he can be a Parker style player for us.
yeah Parker is a good comparison for him, albeit TD a slightly smaller version.

Expecting a breakout year for him, playing every game, top 5 bnf finish

Had a long chat with Froggy at last year's Syd. If we didn't have Wellsy on the list I'd say you'd never meet a more humble, well spoken and engaging bloke. The fact Mrs Toes grew up a Norwood supporter helped get the chat underway in a relaxed fashion and I had to tell him how hopeful we were that his chance would arrive in 2016.

He was thrilled to learn a heap of fans were of a similar mindset. He was patient and determined, and not for one second did I get the impression he'd be wanting out if his chance didn't arrive soon.

Go get 'em Froggy!

Couldn't agree with you more. Had a chat with Trent after the Norwood 2013 GF win and he is a most likeable and unassuming character, one that you wish the absolute very best for. And he can certainly play. Long term, and big words I know, but has the potential with his calm thinking and ability to hit targets under pressure to be another Sam Mitchell.

******* hope so.

I've said before on here that I'm personally of the opinion, and I'm sure there many others, that he is just different gravy. IMO he could turn out to be our best player within the next 18 months, or so.

NORTH Melbourne football player Trent Dumont and another man robbed an Adelaide taxi driver of $70 during an early-morning incident, a court has heard.

Dumont, 21, returned to his home town on Monday to stand trial in the District Court.

He and his co-accused Joshua David Lomas, 20, have each pleaded not guilty to aggravated robbery.

Prosecutors allege the duo threatened to, and did, use force to steal $70 from a taxi driver at Banksia Park, northeast of Adelaide, in October 2014.

Prior to the start of the trial, Judge Paul Muscat cautioned potential jurors against using the internet, going on social media or bringing team allegiances into the trial.

“Those of you who follow AFL football might know that Trent Dumont plays for the North Melbourne football club, the Kangaroos,” he said.

“If you know him or if you follow that club then probably you should let me know.”

Opening the trial, prosecutor Edward Stretton-Smith told jurors the crime of robbery did not have to involve masks, banks or even “a lot of money”.

He said using force, or threatening to do so, while taking a person’s property turned a theft into a robbery.

Mr Stretton-Smith said Dumont and Lomas got into the cab outside SkyCity Casino, on North Tce, and asked to be taken to Modbury.

He said the driver asked for payment upfront and, when Dumont gave him a $50 note, held it in his hand for the duration of the trip “as was his practice”.

“(Upon arrival) the driver says he reached into the console to get $2.50 in change ... he says Dumont then said words to the effect that they didn’t want the change, they wanted all his money,” he said.

Mr Stretton-Smith said Lomas took the cab’s log book and left the vehicle and, as the driver went to retrieve it, “Lomas or perhaps Dumont grabbed him from behind and pushed him to the ground”.

He said that, after holding the driver down for a time, Dumont and Lomas ran off - when the driver recovered, both the $50 and another $20 was gone.

The driver also told police that he realised his change containers, kept in the console of the car, had been opened.

Mr Stretton-Smith said police interviewed both Lomas and Dumont after the alleged incident.

Lomas, he said, told police Dumont had believed the driver had short-changed him and had refused to leave the cab.

Dumont backed up that version.

“He said he was being a smart-ass about it, joking around ... he took the driver’s note book, gave it to Lomas and told him to put it on the footpath,” Mr Stretton-Smith said.

“He said he took the plastic container and was shaking it around, and that he did it to razz up the driver ... he says the driver told him to put it down and came at him.

“He says the driver grabbed him out of the taxi and tried to tackle him to the ground, but he ‘shrugged’ him, then he and Lomas ran away.

“He says he was calling back to the driver to ‘chill out’ and that he was ‘just joking’.”

Mr Stretton-Smith said CCTV cameras in the taxi recorded the journey, but did not capture the alleged robbery as it occurred on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Tony Burns, for Dumont, told jurors to keep not only an open mind, but also “a critical mind”, while “measuring” the evidence.

He said the driver’s evidence should be compared with the CCTV footage which was “not subject to memory, bias or dishonesty”.

“There’s two sides to every story,” he said.

“You can weigh up the driver’s version, what we say about the implausibility of his version.

“No money was stolen ... without money being stolen, you have no robbery.

“At the end of the day, you should be comfortably satisfied that the driver’s version of events simply cannot be right.”

The trial is proceeding before Judge Muscat and a jury of five men and seven women.

Dumont made his AFL debut for the Kangaroos in April 2015, having earlier played for North Ballarat in the VLF.

The Adelaide-born mid-inside fielder was recruited by North Melbourne as the 30th pick of the 2015 national draft, having played for Norwood in the SANFL.

This went to trial over $70?
They went on trial over aggravated robbery (which suggests Dumont used force against the driver)

Cabbies story seems to have changed since the incident.

Sounds like a crock of s**t.

Not sure them pointing out specifically that he was a football player and who he played for was a good thing either, give the name and ask if anyone knows of him.

Doesn't seem like a weapon was used.
Or the driver suffered any injuries.
So Trents coming off as mean and it's trial worthy? What a waste of time

Aggravated is a bigger thing in SA. Weapon doesn't need to be involved if two "offenders" are present and easier to be charged with it than other states from memory.

If it was Vic it would have been over and done with 2 yrs ago.
