If he works out he works out, if he doesn't, who cares?
Like any club that has seven picks in the first 28, or even more, there will be hits and misses; shocks and surprises; ups and downs.
Startles me some thought it woud be a laydown misère that we'd get seven guns without incident or setbacks.
If 4 of the seven picks turn out to be B+ and better
, then I think we've done well. Also include Grlj in that group as he was a bonus from that draft.

Will be interesting to see if Smillie is on the track when they start training (today?)

Given the timelines set at the time of his operation, he should be running by now in some capacity.
Hopefully that has already started over the break for him, so it will be interesting to see how far along he is.

If he is not on the track there will be melts.

They actually said he’d be back in full training by the END of January, but yep, he should be running at least.

Just saw the pics on the RWS and Smillie has two sets of running shoes in his hands. One for outside? and the other for the anti gravity treadmill inside? Glass half full or empty.

Some guys just take some time, when I watch him, he does make some good decisions with the ball… I personally believe he has what it takes. but ultimately I’m glad we picked Lalor over Finn.
Lalor looked like he was a step above the AFL in his first game! FOS might be good, but Lalor looks like he has the potential to get near Dusty. That is super elite talent - great work by our draft guys.

Peak Lalor will be a force of nature. He'll be pushing campaigners around this year if he stays fit, imagine when he's 25 and battle hardened. Scary.

Looking at the training video, he is huge! And for a kid, that is something.

Lovely skills and amazing vision and footy brain.

And as a junior he liked it hard and tough.

Looks like he has that sleeper farmer build as well

Not super jacked to the eye but would be next to impossible to move

Different drafts but

Knowing what we know now, would we take someone else instead of Josh Smillie at Pick 7?

For me, the answer is still no.

Yes, Smillie hasn’t played yet because of a 'quad issue' but that doesn’t change the fact that he has the highest long‑term upside of anyone taken after him in 2024 draft. The next few picks after him before our next pick (12 Hotton) were Travaglia, Tauru and Lindsay. All solid prospects, but none of them have the same ceiling Smillie was drafted for.

Richmond didn’t pick him to be a round‑one starter. They picked him because he projects as a genuine long‑term midfielder with size, power and growth left in his game. Missing early games doesn’t change that.

If anything, the injury just delays the payoff, it doesn’t reduce it.

I’d still take Smillie every time.

Also how good was it getting Taj at pick 12 and Trainor at 21, still makes me go hard thinking about it!!!!!!!!
This is pure cope

Knowing what we know now , no way we take him

Things could change but right now at this point

No farking way

We didn't pick him for 2025, 2026 or even 2027. We picked him for 2028 and beyond, and so this discussion is ridiculous.
