Think Constable might just sneak in

But 4 or 5 in contention

What did you think of his game Arr0w?
Still looks somewhat slow to me by way of body, but quick of mind.

Not fair to compare Setterfield, because I feel he does more things better, but Geelong are now almost forced to be using him.
They really don't have much depth through their midfield any more.

EDIT: What I mean by that, is that what they have can be exhausted very quickly.

Was never quick, nor will he be, but has always been a great reader of the ball and some of the best hands I have ever seen as a junior

The other thing, has maturity beyond his years in regards to limitations around disposal

DE in that first game of 85% which is elite especially with the conditions and the pressure the Pies bring

You know I would have loved if we drafted him, even in the top 10

What I had against him was his loopy kicks and sometimes handballs.
Not sure how he would have fit into our team either and a reason I wasn't keen on Hately.

All for balance and like what we have with the current crop. Just not sure about Stockers fit just yet. We'll find out later this year, or more likely the next.

Walsh showed enough in the one game for the opposition to worry about him.
Early hype was too much but that will settle soon enough with other players to talk about also.
Really liked this draft

Waiting for his nomination won’t hurt. In fact I’d like the spotlight to shine elsewhere for a while.

My opinion.

It was a cracking debut game. He handled himself well in the pressure situations during the game. He was sublime in setting up Murph for the goal in the 3rd quarter. Not many in the league could have created the space and opportunity. He came up against tough, mature opponents. 85,000 people didn’t put him off his game.

Happy for another player to get nominated. Probably doesn’t deserve it on what I saw.;)

Are people seriously calling him vanilla without their tongue in their cheek?

Kid is special. Hes triple choc fudge.

Meh he is just a good ordinary footballer.

His game reminds me a lot of a young Cotchin. He just knows how to play footy, where to run to, how to work through traffic, and a bit on what’s expected of his team mates. Rising stars mean nothing it’ll be very interesting to see how he develops into the elite league. No doubt he will have his down moments but he’s a star player in the making. He and Dow seem a little similar they’ll need to work out how to maximise each other’s strengths. Good problem to have.

This is the key part and what sets him apart from other 'ready made' picks that have come in already equipped with AFL level running ability (see Scully, Tom). He's a real footballer and while he might not develop to be an explosive dominant type like a Dusty or Danger, I just don't see how he doesn't become a complete mid who finds plenty of ball, doesn't panic, makes good decisions and uses it well. While he's copped a bit of flack over the years, Cotch won a Brownlow.

Agree Walsh plays like a bit like Cotchin. Can be an all-over-the-field contributor and just knows how to football. His kicking looks fine to me on what we've seen so far, and debut could not have been more impressive given the tough opposition and big occasion. Will get a RS nod soon enough, no doubt.

Just on Dow, though - I think his kicking *is* a problem. It should improve with preseasons, strength and more composure, but he badly whiffs on far too many set shots and "easy" kicks at the moment. I'm concerned, not that he won't make it as an AFL player, but that his kicking could be a Treloar-esque limiting factor in his ceiling.

(Note: would still be ecstatic if Dow was as good as Treloar one day)

Composure or kicking? Think it's mental.
