'Aminah Hayat has been identified as the woman found dead in a bath of acid before her boyfriend, Meraj Zafar, was arrested following a citywide manhunt.
The Daily Telegraph can also reveal Zafar was recently accused of domestic violence against Ms Hayat‘s family.

NSW Police were called to a three-storey unit block on Pennant Hills Road, in North Parramatta, after worried family members raised the alarm about a domestic violence incident on Sunday afternoon.

Police forced their way into the unit’s bathroom where they found the body of a woman in the bathtub which was filled with hydrochloric acid.

The young woman was Aminah Hayat, who had only recently moved into the building with Zafar.

“I can confirm there were chemicals found inside the bathroom of the unit. I can’t confirm what they were,“ Parramatta Police Area Commander Superintendent Julie Boon said on Monday.

“The scene was very challenging for arriving police when they did arrive and found chemicals at the unit they retreated and called other units.”

Specialist HAZMAT crews from Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the crime scene as police launched a manhunt for the woman‘s partner.

The 20-year-old Zafar was allegedly captured on CCTV behind the wheel of a tipper truck with what appeared to be scratches up his arms.

His face appeared impassive, hidden by sunglasses with a dark beard and moustache.

Zafar is believed to have dumped the truck at Bunnings Greenacre before walking into Bankstown Police Station early on Monday afternoon.

He was arrested and no charges have been laid.

He remains in police custody.

'Superintendent Boon is urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Pennant Hills Rd or the unit on Sunday who heard anything out of the ordinary to contact police.

“Our second appeal is to anyone who sees the man whose image has been released is to report that to police or if they know the man to encourage him to come forward so he can assist us with our inquiries,” she said.

Locals have reported hearing screaming in the hours before police arrived on the scene.'

Locals heard screaming hours before police arrived? So I'm assuming no one called police then?

Those who heard any screams might have had only a general idea of where it was coming from.

Meraj Zafar to remain in custody charged with girlfriend’s murder

'February 1, 2022 - 11:08AM'

'Emergency services were confronted by the horrific scene at the couple’s Pennant Hills Rd, North Parramatta unit around 4.30pm on Sunday after receiving a call from one of Zafar’s relatives concerned about Hayat’s welfare.

Neighbour George Hamilton Milner heard a scream hours before the woman’s body was found.

“I was in the backyard about 2pm and I heard someone who sounded like they were about to sing and then it turned into a scream. It was really abrupt and then police arrived.”

“We’ve been here for a couple of years and haven’t heard of anything bad so it was a bit of a shock to hear it happened across the road.”'

'It is understood Zafar had called relatives before the incident complaining that he had a fight with Hayat.'
