The 1980's was the greatest music era ever! :thumbsu:
Do you rate any of these bands?

Icehouse,
Huey Lewis & The News,
Journey,
A Flock of Seagulls.

What were some of your favourite bands from the 1980's?
Overall, surely its the greatest music era? It is in my opinion anyway.

Icehouse - Sensational. Another quality Adelaide product. Some top tunes in the 80s. Can't recall a bad one actually.

HL&TN - Not bad. Some pretty fair tracks. Particularly rate Jacob's Ladder and Heart & Soul. The Power Of Love was a bag of shyte though.

Journey - Didn't rate them as a band but thought Steve Perry's solo work from the Street Talk album ( Oh, Sherrie & Foolish Heart ) in 84 - 85 was pretty fair.

Flock Of Seagulls - Known for one song IIRC - I Ran - and that was bollocks.

Some bands I would nominate as making the 80s the great decade it was:

Prefab Sprout ( brilliant and very underrated Irish band )
Real Life
Pseudo Echo
Uncanny X Men
The Go Betweens
Spandau Ballet
Dead Or Alive
and myriad one hit wonders like Benny Mardones, Boy's Town Gang, Grand Junction, PhD, Men Without Hats etc..

And the crud of the 80s?
Eurythmics ( Annie Lennox makes me barf ), Cher. Shakin' Stevens, Bobby McFerrin, Enya and all that '50s & 60s revival rubbish like Stray Cats , Jive Bunny and Stars On *****

early 80's: The Clash, Blondie, Chisel, etc..

late 80's: the travelling wilburys put back the fun into music again

1. The Power of Love: One of the best songs there is,
2. Maybe they were on hit wonders, but I Ran was quality.
3. Completely agree on Icehouse.

There are some great Aussie-NZ bands from the 80s that I love:

Eurogliders
Divinyls
Dragon
Men At Work
AC/DC
INXS
GangGaJang
Split Enz - Crowded House
Mental as Anything
Australian Crawl
Midnight Oil
MiSex
1927
Air Supply

(EDIT)

There weren't an adelaide band. Iva Davies was a sydney lad.

wow noone has mentioned the cure?

The Cure and Prince saved the 80's.

Clearly the worst decade since the 50's for mine, by a decent length.

A few highlights though, including these GREAT bands of the 80's:

- The Smiths
- The Cure
- Talking Heads
- Midnight Oil
- Joy Division (just scrape in!)
- Sonic Youth
- REM

Other good bands:

- Aussie Crawl, The Police ...

St. Elmo's Fire- wasn't too bad, however I agree, The Breakfast Club is a classic, one of the greats! :thumbsu:
There were some classic lines in the Breakfast Club. Here are some of my faves:

"Hey, sir, does Barry Manilow know that you've raided his wardrobe?"

"Hey sporto, level with me. Did you slip her the hot beef injection?"
